I don't know what that part of the nail is called. Is it a cuticle?

I only have the white arch on my thumb nail, not the rest.
After I noticed that, I checked most of my friends nails and actually paid attention to other people's nails, and everyone I saw had it on all their nails. But I don't, just the thumbs. Someone said it might be from lack of protein. o_O Anyone know if it means something to not have that?

You can see what I'm talking about here:

And so you know for sure what I'm talking about, I outlined it here:

i had the same problem too then i just put vaseline on my fingers/nails and push back the skin that covers it

sometime i cut it too because just pushing back doesnt show as much as if i cut it

but yea...mine is just a temporary solution...i dont know a permanent solution yet :x

Rofl. I think it looks prettier without it actually (not that it's a huge difference anyway) but I just got really curious. ^^;

Maybe try pushing back your cuticles and seeing if the white arch is underneath?

the shape of your lunula defines the shape of how your nails will grow.. says wikipedia

if u can see your lunula then it's appearance is also a good indication of the status of your health. if the lunula changes colour or texture it represents something wrong going on in your system.
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

I have them on my thumb, index, and middle fingers. I was told that it's an indication of the amount of iron in your blood. The more you have of it, the more iron you have. Whether that's a good thing or not; well... mellow.gif

maybe it's some kinda deficiency? because when i used to eat a lot of junk food, all my fingers would have at least a little bit of it..but now that i've been eating healthier, there's only a little bit on my thumbs

... what a strange observation. Ahahaha.

I have it on all my nails, except for some reason, it's absent from my left ring finger.
(sheesh, my nails are ugly. Must stop biting.)

But fret not. I doubt a guy will reject you because of lack of a nail-arch. ;]

I was born w/ normal ones on all of my fingers, but as I grew older they began shrinking smaller and smaller. Some fingers have none whatsoever. But eh, no biggie, just weird.

they say the more you paint your nails or cut your cuticles too often then most likely the white part won't be as visible. O.o i forgot where i heard this from. but most of the time i hear that it shows if you're intaking enough proteins or not. my nails are always painted so i don't even know if i have them.. lol, now i'm gona go take my polish off just to check. dry.gif
