they're business school is premier too (undergrad, and graduate level)
was thinking about transferring to their business school (ross) but with the statistic that only 2 or 3 transfers were admitted last year, i decided not to.

i'm very excited for next year
i wish i could say more about the business program but >_< i don't know much. if you go to one of their campus day things you yourself can ask the business students whatever you want. Ross is a wonderful business school (ranked #1 by businesweek this year), and from what i recall, as long as you do the prerequisites and keep up the gpa (3.6ish is the average), then you'll be admitted into the school your sophomore year --> according to the Ross students on campus day.

i think it's pretty close to the stereotypical college experience. like pretty campus with ivy-covered buildings and a big student square with lots of kids in backpacks milling around... football games... coffee shops everywhere... almost everyone dorms freshman year at least... lots of opportunities to get involved with work or research or student groups on campus... liberal atmosphere... i mean i don't know what kind of information you're looking for. i don't know much about the b-school at all. but this is what i remember and miss about my days at umich. so yeah

Michigan is a huge school, and a good percentage of the courses you take over your college career will be lectures. You'll earn what you put into it. I know a couple genius-level students who are on academic probation all the time b'cuz they just don't go to class.
Anyway, I really loved going to a big school, especially a football school. It's truly a different experience. I was born and raised in Philly, so I'm not really a huge fan of the midwest quaintness or the 9-month winter. I'm such an urban girl.
It's crazy expensive for a public school though! And the city totally screws students over in terms of off-campus housing, b'cuz students have very little say in city matters. You pay $300-650/month for a tiny room with crappy furniture. The lower end of the range usually means bunkbeds and sharing what SHOULD be a single with someone else. And $650/mo for a single on a campus in a non-metropolitan city... ugh so ridiculous!
But in the end I don't regret attending this school. I have a lot of great memories, and I'll cherish everything I'm taking away from the experience.

I live in Oregon and I'm hoping that UMich is nothing like it here. I desperately need a different environment and to meet new people.
I'm going on a visit soon in May and I'm excited to feel what the atmosphere is like there!

Anyway, back to the original question about b-school. I'm not in the b-school, but I have friends who have gotten in and who have gotten rejected. Ross is super crazy competitive to get into. You have to have good grades (3.9 GPA helps). And you have to be involved in leadership positions (student government and student organizations). It used to be a 2-year program, so you applied after your sophomore year. But now it's a 3-year program, so you apply after your freshman year. B-school itself at UMich isn't hard. It's getting in that's hard. Same with UMich's med school.
And tuition is crazy expensive. I think it's the most expensive public school for out-of-state students ($35,000+). Good thing I pay in-state tuition
Congrats to you, rigashi!!! By the way, what color tassles do b-school students get?

ROFL you tried to do the wave?? That's AWESOME hahahah! I was soooooooooooo cold, shivering like crazy in just a dress and my grad gown in high heels like half the girls there (so so stupid.. need to plan ahead better). THANK GOD the sun came out!
Thanks for the congrats!! B-School tassle is this ugly light brown colour called "drab" or something. Luckily, I also had my LSA white one to soften it. I wish I had decorated my cap!!!
Here's pics of the tassle:
