Okay, so this baby is already pretty fast, but I want faster >:D because darkviet said H264 encoding would be faster had I overclocked this baby.

What I would like to know is...is it even possible to overclock a Dell laptop? I managed to overclock my old desktop (Athlon XP) fine, and I overclocked my computer at work (Pentium IV), but somehow I could NOT overclock my Inspiron. It keeps saying how certain parts of the BIOS is locked.

Is there a way to unlock those configurations? And how would you ever flash your BIOS on a laptop? I know how to do it on a desktop...

Okay thanks biggrin.gif

even if it were possible to overclock a LAPTOP, i wouldnt recommend it.

the chassis on the laptops are barely enough to cool themselves on stock....overclocking would overheat it for sure. desktop computers have all the necessary cooling and ventilation...but imagine your laptop dry.gif. and yeah...the mobo features are minimal on laptops so...meh.....cant overclock even if you wanted to burn the thing.

i dont think darkviet knows that you were on a laptop...otherwise he wouldnt have recommmended it. the C2D for the desktop overclocks very niecly however...

You can overclock your video but if it was possible for the CPU to overclock... I wouldn't have a dead 1.8ghz comcrap sitting in my backyard =\

Your only chance would be to look up the clockgen of your laptop to see if you can get the clockgen utility to adjust the front side bus. But thats really doubtful.

GRR YOU SERIOUSLY DID GET MY HOPES ALL UP!!!

I have an external cooler for my laptop and it works dandy. Though I would imagine that, had I overclocked my laptop, it would still overheat despite the cooling.

Ah, so much for wishful thinking ;p Oh well, at least this baby's fast at everything else <3

Thanks guys for your input anyway hahaha
