Summary for March week 5 chart:

No. 1 song: Ivy remains No. 1 with "유혹의 소나타" (Temptation of Sonata). Interestingly, she edged out Lee Ki Chan's 2 week No. 1 song "미인" (A Beauty) by a single point once again with the same score 928-927. She should have won more easily but her ballad "이럴거면" is starting to surface on some charts, taking away some scores of her No. 1 song. But with the gap on the album sales score widening between Ivy and Lee Ki Chan (Ivy's top is the top seller), it's optimistic to predict that she'll stay at No. 1 again next week.

Biggest Mover of the week: 3 songs this week move up 20 or more spots. Mose's "내 사랑" (My Love) is our biggest mover after jumping 24 spots from No. 47 to No. 23. This is the title song from Mose's 3rd album. Mose had a big debut hit "사랑인걸" (This is love) 2 years ago. But his last album did not generate a top 10 hit. Let see if he will rebound with this song.

Hot shot debut: Magolpy, a highly anticipated new female singer, has the highest debut this week at No. 19 with "비행소녀" (Flight Girl). Magolpy is a very unique new artist. It is hard to categorize her music, which I can say is a combination of pop, rock, and modern rock. Even before this song hit the chart, the music video already received good reviews. For a new female artist to debut within the top 20 with her first song, she'll definitely worth to watch out for. The song is written by songwriter Yoon Myung Sun, who also wrote Superjunior-T's "로꾸거" (Ro Ggu Guh!!!) and ERU's "까만안경" (Black Glasses) among his recent hit songs.

Songs to watch out:

8. MC Sniper - 봄이여 오라 (Oh Spring, Come) - continues to move up very fast, leaping another 20 spots straight into the top 10. MC Sniper scores his long deserved first top 10 hit.

18. Lyn - 이별살이 (Separate Life) - like MC Sniper's song, this song moves up 20 spots as well from No. 38 to No. 18. Lyn shared a top 10 hit with Shin Hye Sung earlier this year with "사랑후에" (After Love). Let see if she will do better with her solo song this time.

21. Hye Ryoung - 반지하나 (One Ring) - Hye Ryoung has a similar style to Lyn as they both exceled at R&B ballads. Hye Ryoung is a lot more underrated. Her previous albums all received good reviews but did not produce any hits. This song is set to become her biggest hit to date if it can crack into the top 20 next week.

28. K.Will - 왼쪽가슴 (Left Chest) - Rookie R&B singer K.Will moves up 17 spots to No. 28 this week. K.Will still haven't appeared on gayo shows yet. When he does, this song should be top 20 material.

45. Yoon Ha - 비밀번호 486 (Secret Number 486) - Another promising new female singer. Yoon Ha was very impressive with her digital single hit "Audition" which is just off the chart a few weeks ago. This song is from her first official full k-pop album which is a top 10 seller currently. Yoon Ha first debuted in Japan and now she's back home to Korea to launch her career. This song could well be the biggest mover next week.

BIOGRAPHY:

Our featured artist this week is Park Hyo Shin. He is a singer who has a deep and appealing voice that attracts many people to his songs. His trademark husky voice is so unique in k-pop. It is hard to imagine that he’s only 25 years old. His fan demographic ranges from teenagers to thirty-somethings. Park has been training himself hard to become a top singer ever since he was 16. Park stood out as a promising talent by winning top prizes in various song competitions.

In January of 2000, Park made his debut as a professional singer with “Things I Cannot Do For You”. Upon his debut, he attracted attention and was praised by many people. From his debut album, two songs, “Things I Cannot Do For You” and “Fool”, recorded hits instantly, marking him up as one of the most exciting musicians to step to the forefront of the industry at that time.

Later, Park Hyo Shin actively performed in various events like participating in the musical “Rock Hamlet”, a tribute album for Deulgukhwa, “That Only Is My World” and as duetting with Lee Sora on her 4th album. In January of 2001, Park released his second album “Second Story”, in which top songwriters like Yoon Sang, Kim Dong-ryul and Yoo Hee-yeol participated, eliciting great responses from music lovers.

But it was not until his 3rd album "Time Honored Voice" that Park Hyo Shin scored his first No. 1 song with "A Good Person". He scored another No. 1 hit with the title song "Standing In That Place" from his 4th album "Soul Tree".

Perhaps the most well-known song of Park Hyo Shin is not the 2 No. 1 songs that he scored, but the theme song "Snow Flakes" from the hit KBS drama "I am Sorry I Love You" in early 2005. This song is a remake of Mika Nakashima's big Japanese hit, and after Park Hyo Shin, a lot of other versions of this song in different languages has been released as well.

In mid-2005, at the peak of remaking old songs, Park Hyo Shin also released a remake album "Neo-Classicism". The song "Scattered Days" made in to the top 5 in music charts.

Park Hyo Shin was in complete hiatus in 2006 to prepare for his 5th album. It's been 3 years since Park Hyo Shin released a full studio album. His 5th album finally came out in early 2007. The title song "추억은 사랑을 닮아" (Memories resemble love) again is a top 3 hit.

Park Hyo Shin's albums are always selling quite well, and his songs are always ranked at or near the top of music charts despite the fact that he doesn't come out to perform very often in music shows. It further proves that with his golden voice, Park Hyo Shin has established himself as one of the top male vocalists in Korea.
