Depends what type of camera...

compact digital? SLR digital? 'pro-sumer' digital? Film?

The big players in digital cameras today are Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Minolta/Konica, Pentax, Sony, HP, Kodak, Panasonic, etc.

Professional wise (digital SLR), the main players are Canon and Nikon respectively.

Everyone raves over Canon and Sony but Fujifilm is seriously underrepresented, as well as Pentax...

I heard (&believe) that Nikon is one of the better ones also.

--I'm assuming you're talking about those point&shoot digital cameras--

I'm planning to get a Nikon CoolPix L5 soon :D!

Canon, Sony or Nikon.
If you want a cheaper price, Canon and Nikon sound pretty good.
Sony's just as good, but double the price maybe. XD

if you want really good functions, high quality images, proper professional photography nikon and canon are the way to go.

but if you just want a nice camera that take good pics and to take around with you i recommend sony..

For regular Point and Shoots, Canon and Sony are pretty popular. Olympus and Panasonic have some good ones too.

For SLR type cameras, Canon and Nikon are usually the top choices. However, Sony and Fujifilm come out with some nice ones.
