hm, for Stanford, I've got $23,000 scholarships/grants
my dad tried to "appeal" and haha they said the most they can do is give me a loan on the rest ($26,000/year...o_O)

JHu's sucked...I got like a bunch of loans
Cornell gave me around $4,000?
UCs really sucked too, like $2000 or 4000 or something for some of the UCs, Irvine gave me a pretty good one though (Regent's)...

anyway, supposedly you can argue with them to get more aid, but it's not really working for Stanford so sucks for me sleep.gif

I'll include all of mine, even the ones I'm not going to.
How do you get grants/work study?
Otherwise, I'm hoping to get a few private scholarships.

University of MN - Twin Cities:
$5000 in merit scholarship
The rest can be covered in loans, but I'm in-state and my parents can pay for it out of pocket.
I'm hoping to get selected in the "Job Guarantee Program"

American University:
$22,000 in merit sholarship
$3,500 in loans
Nothing else

Boston University
$10,000 in merit scholarship
$3,500 in loans
Absolutely NOTHING...

St. Louis University
$6,000 merit scholarship
Loans

I said no thanks to:

Macalester College
Absolutely NOTHING, not even LOANS.

Loyola University - Chicago
$4,000 merit scholarship
Random loans

University of Vermont
$11,000 merit scholarships
$3000 in loans

NOT including work study or loans
UCLA: around 16,000
UCSD: around 18,000
UCI: around 14,000

i'm not sure about CAL or USC yet because i haven't sent in some forms yet.

so far I've only gotten one...
James Madison University - $13500 in grants, $4000 in loans
what happens if they give you more money than is needed? do you just keep it for the next year?

^you could just use less loans. you would have less to pay back after college and have nothing to worry about with the %, etc.

My best package is the University of Rochester: $30,000 in scholarship and grants and about $5000 in loans and a whole bunch of other things on the paper that I don't recall..

i know someone who called the financial aid office and said that they really really really wanted to attend the school but couldn't afford it and asked if they could get more financial aid. i didn't remember how much more the school gave them but i know they did get more than the school orginally offered in the first place.

My best FA package was from Georgetown which is where I'll be going next year!

University Scholarship: $36,160
Stafford Loan: $3000 0
Work Study: $3000 1000

But I have $5000 in outside scholarships thus far which will cover up all the loans and 2000 of the work study. I am still hopefully counting on 2000 more in outside scholarships which will cover up the rest of my work study. =]

^ correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe it's when you agree to work a certain job on campus and in turn they'll pay you a preset amount of money to help offset the cost of tuition

Yea, I think that is how work/studies function. Like you can be a RA for the dorms or work in the tour department.
