Someone made a thread a long time ago about Asian athletes, and I didn't have pics back then of my favs, but now I gathered some but I can't find that thread so I started a new one. I have a lot...I'm pretty obsessed with athletes although I mostly know only the famous, good players from China and a few of the really famous ones from other countries.

Basketball

Yi Jianlian

Yang Ming

Diving

Tian Liang<-- poor baby. tears.gif

Swimming

Wu Peng

Gymnastics

Xin Aowei <--best looking and tallest of the team

Teng Haibin

Li Xiaopeng

Badminton

Bao Chunlai

Cai Yun

Fu Haifeng

Lin Dan <--- Probably the least good looking of the badminton players and yet the most vain, sigh.

Group:

From left-right:

Li Xiaopeng, someone I don't know, teng haibin, and bao chunlai.

Tian Liang and Li Xiaopeng

And the only Japanese guy on here: Hiroyuki Tomita...he was so hot I had to put him

If anyone wants to tell me some more, from whatever country please, please do. I'm a sucker for handsome, talented athletes. I feel less guilty drooling over them, because at least I know they definitely worked hard.

I feel like I'm missing someone...oh well, I'll add him later.

im surprised you didn't put Liu Xiang, the Chinese sprinter! and he's not a bad looking guy either. he really brought glory to the Chinese peoplee.. and he was one of the rare Chinese Olympic winners that really showed his pride by waving the Chinese flag. smile.gif

what happened to Tian Liang?

oooh Hiroyuki Tomita.. i remember watching him...

as I understand it, the national team didn't like him doing all those commercial endorsements and stuff, among other things, so they kicked him off....then he continued to train with a provincial team and was able to keep up his (very high lol) standard of diving. People wanted him back on the national team, but the government wouldn't do it. Then, last month, he retired tears.gif

To be fair, he was doing a lot of endorsements, and the national team had let him go, but had he apologized then and there, they would have let him back on. Instead he never really apologized but strived to prove to them that they needed him by training extremely hard and then doing extremely well at the national championships, where he got number one. But then they still didn't let him back on the team, like I had hoped. After that he sort of got depressed and stopped training as hard. One of the reasons that they wouldn't be lenient was some pinkberry who was I think the manager of the national team that he was at odds with before, and was exacting some sort of vengeance by not letting him back on. People wanted the government to override her, but the government couldn't do anything, because when the Olympics are at stake, the manager, and hence the team is more important than one player. So nobody was in a position to help then. And then last month or something they were like, oh, he could have rejoined the team. If he wants to rejoin, then rejoin. Which must have pissed him off after having let his skill go down so much. So he just quit. A year before the Beijing Olympics which is kind of like the holy grail for all Chinese athletes now.

I don't think I ever really liked Liu Xiang's face, not like the other players on here, but you're right, everyone else I seems to think he's pretty good looking. But what you said about him being rare in his pride is something that also bothers me about him. I know it's probably not easy as an Asian to win sprints but I think at one level I'm also rather annoyed by his being singled out all the time. I think nearly all Chinese athletes are pretty proud of being able to do something for their country and they deserve recognition for their accomplishments too.

But I'll find some pics of him later and add him. biggrin.gif

Whereas I understand your sentiments for him being "singled-out," you need to understand that he won in a field that the Chinese people and Asians in general have historically been weak in. To have not just won track and field, but to have set a new record, is really the first of its kind for China. While it's true what you said that every win is representation of hours upon hours of hardwork by Chinese athletes and each win is as valid as the next, LX's was historic. China has traditionally dominated in diving, in badminton, in gymnastics whereas a hurdles medal has never been achieved before him. LX singlehandedly put China on the map of track & field. So is he overrated? maybe. But that by no means takes away the significance of his contribution. Also, 110 m hurdles is a singles event, there's no such thing as team. He trains alone and therefore, inevitably gets recognized alone. You can't blame him for something like that.

You're absolutely right, he's seriously talented and I don't blame him just there were a lot of breakthroughs in the last Olympics for not just the Chinese but Asians in general and I guess I would have preferred to not have those people shunted aside. But I'm very proud of him. I think other Asians are proud of him too...maybe not the Japanese or Koreans but at least Taiwanese and Hong Kongers who've traditionally maintained a distinction in that respect. And I think he's good looking enough to be China's flag bearer for the 2008 Olympics, which I definitely think he will be. Thanks for the pics...I know there are some pics of him I really like...I need to go search for them.

Mmmm... athletes. I find it so hot when a guy has a nice body from playing sport and all, rather than just sitting in a gym and lifting weights or doing other body building stuff.. that's just so unnatural.

But yeah, Tian Liang is SOOO CUTE! i like, i like! LOLmy fave of the whole bunch you posted by far!
Yang Ming's kinda cute too.. but still Tian Liang has my vote!

Bao Chun Lai's not bad either; he reminds me of Ji Sung (from the k-drama 'Save the Last Dance for Me') from some angles.

Here's some pics of Ji Sung for comparison (credits: Ji Sung thread on soompi)

Well, they look similar, that's all. not alike or anything.

China was really close, only 3 medals away, 32 gold to America's 35. But they improved a lot from the previous one, in which they had 26 only.

It's pretty much guaranteed that China will get top in the Beijing Olympics. And you don't need to worry about the gymnastics. They swept the Gymnastics Championships in 2006, which both the men and women's team winning the team gold. Pretting amazing.

Thanks for the pics btw...I love Bao Chunlai's personality. He's too cute.
