i've been in academic decathlon for two years now. (The Renaissance & China)
i'm in california and my school's pretty ghetto, so not many people are into this kind of thing.
last year our school was a lost cause. we didn't study and we came home with nothing.
after what happened last year, we took it to the next level.
we studied, and our school had about 7 medals, which was actually a big surprise to us.
you would've never thought that our school would have such an outcome.
but yeah,
i was surprised since i studied for the literature portion
& i came out with a Gold medal for speech.
the past two years i've been in scholastic, since my freshmen year sucked.
but i know for sure that next year i'll be in honors.
so we'll see.
CIVIL WAR seems alright. not bad for my last year..

I'm technically a high schooler (Freshman), but our district is weird and does Grades 7-9 being Junior High.
I know it's like an academic competition regarding all disciplines of academics. But how was your experiences, and like what do you need to do to get in?

Our school has the misfortune of being up agaisnt crazy LAUSD people who win the nationals virtually everytime they go -_x
Anyway I'm in it, I competed only last year because I was late for the Renaissance..
Super Quiz was fun. Teehee.
I got 2 awards - Bronze for speech & team's top scorer - and a recognition in essay.
I'm in honors, by the way.
Our school got 7 medals also..
2 gold & 1 bronze in interview
1 silver & 3 bronze in speech
Our coach is really pushing us hard so we can get recognition in other areas this year

Ahhh so nice to find people on soompi who're in acadeca. I recently joined this year (only because of China and Hawaii for nationals, hehe).
Our team worked our asses off for state, beating our arch rival school by less than 0.25%, and we are going to Hawaii in six days for nationals!
I'm so excited, haha.
Though with CA, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Illinois, I doubt we'll do well, but hopefully we'll get to place in our division.
Anyone else going to nationals?

I was an alternate ;~; But I got a gold medal in literature and a silver in math. D: ..
Our school made it to states. Lol.
I think next year's topic for Superquiz is way better than this year's. Climatology, wtf?! I prefer the Civil War. At least I've learned about it in school. @_@
Next year's book is a little iffy. I liked "The Good Earth," but "The Red Badge of Courage"? eurgh. x_x

basically, if your school has an Academic Decathlon class, then you should talk to your counselor. You compete at scrimmages, regionals, or if your team is really good state and nationals. Its kinda like sports except its studying xD The prizes range from medals, trophies, money, scholarships, etc. I think its definetly worth joining and its fun, especially the superquiz

Not that it has anything to do with myself, nor should I be proud of it, since I missed out on the tryout date because I was careless and forgot when it was. Just informing! Good luck to you Acadeca-ers next year. I like your theme.
