I just downloaded Cassadaga tonight, and love everything I've heard so far. It's such a good fusion instead of being just one genre or another.

Anyway, I would love to see them live, but last time, they just came to the big venue downtown without going to the hugely popular 9:30 Club, where most serious acts go (and where I prefer to go because it's a much more intimate setting).

Rachael Yamagata is featured in Cassadaga, and as previously stated, it is an awesome album. Of what I've heard this year, definitely one of the best albums of 2007 released thus far.
The thing is, it's not just the music that makes Bright Eyes so amazing--Conor Oberst is lyrically so gifted.

Digital Ash in a Digital Urn and I'm Wide Awake It's Morning will always be my two favorites. But Cassadaga doesn't disappoint. Especially Four Winds.

I thought their openers, McCarthy Trenching and Oakley Hall, played way too many songs (about an hours worth). But the rest of the concert (read: when Bright Eyes finally came out) was great.
This concert seemed more "production-y" than his previous. There was a whole bunch of stage decor (flowers, which Oberst later threw at the audience) and a huge video projected onto the back stage screen played "artsy" stills and movies in sync with the music. Not to mention, Oberst donned a slim white suit with a red carnation tucked in the breast pocket, and the rest of the band wore white attire as well. Looked nice, but I felt like it was on the brink of being a Coldplay concert.
A lot of the songs Bright Eyes played came from the latest album. Make a Plan to Love Me, Clairaudients, and Four Winds are wonderful live (I think he sounds so much better than on CD/mp3). And they also managed to include a few songs from previous albums, such as Gold Mine Gutted and First Day of My Life which was pretty much heaven (I love love LOVE that song)... but the pièce de résistance for me was when they closed with Road to Joy. Now that is something to see live. Plus, who doesn't want to scream to that song and sing, "Let's f*ck it up boys! Make some noise!)?
I had a blast.
Even though I kind of find Oberst's "audience chat" and "thank you's" a bit awkward and recited... he still manages to play each song as if he's feeling all of the original emotions that inspired the lyrics he's sings. I couldn't ask for more.
Go see him live!

I think Bright Eyes is great live, IMO, he sounds better. I'm so glad that I went... It was just unreal for me to see him sing up close and I haven't been able to get Gold Mine Gutted out of my head for days!
Take pictures, and don't forget to come back here and let us know your thoughts.
