And yes, it definitely is a major commute school. I don't know what the dorms are like but I know that you will probably be lucky to get in one (not everyone who wants to does).
I'm loving it here so far. The University Student Union is definitely my favorite place to hang out. It's a nice environment. The only thing I don't like is the endless amount of stairs x__x (I'm exaggerating though haha)

Do you think I will be able to get in with:
SAT Score: 1850+ (the '+' is because I've yet to learn my test results from my 2nd SAT test and the score may be above 1850)
GPA: 3.2
Class rank: 172/650
SAT II French: hoping to get 600
SAT II Lit: hoping to get 650+
-- Page Editor on school newspaper for 3 years

-- CSF Lifetime member
-- Honors/AP English 4 years, honors/AP History 2 years, honors/ap science 2 yrs, AP French
(I heard admissions into this school is rather competitive for a CSU?)
I think I'd like to go for the nursing major (RN) and perhaps minor in creative writing (is that possible?). I also want to know how good the nursing program is and what are the chances of getting in? What are the nursing major GE requirements (is Calculus a requirement?)?
Please respond if you have answers to any of my questions! I'm really freaking out because it's college app season and since I'm failing Calculus at the moment, I'm thinking of dropping the class (I'm so stupid for taking AP Calculus when math is my worse subject). If it is a requirement, I'll just spend my entire senior year, drowning in derivatives in order to receive a C-!

Also, do any of you know about UCI's nursing program? Does it have a program for those wanting to pursue becoming a RN? Is CSULB's program better or equal to that of UCI's?

for accounting you're better off with the program at CSU Fullerton. And I imagine it would be VERY difficult but bear in mind 2% out of state of a student body of almost 40,000 people is still 800 people ;-)
Best of luck, wherever you go.

I'm going to be super-blunt, so please excuse me for just a moment.
The most important thing about getting into CSULB is where do you go to high school? I had 700+ SAT II's and a 2100+ SAT (and a horrible GPA
It's nice to have 700+ Verbal/Math, you'll be exempt from taking some courses. Uh... Nursing is majorly impacted and perhaps the most difficult program at CSULB. It's hyper-competitive and I'm told my friend who currently has a 3.7 GPA in college is having trouble staying in the program. 3.7, to be clear, is like 4:1 A to B ratio. There is no room for failure or even a C. Of course minoring in Creative Writing is possible, but I suggest you get ready to study for real when you get here if you want to do nursing; things are not spoon fed to you like in high school.

i have a 3.19 (yes i know low) and i'm taking act on december. my major would be nursing. i know it's really impacted.. i'm really paranoid that i won't be able to make it in.. T__T i'm thinking of cheating the system, you know for intended major i pick some unpopular major and then when i get in, change back to nursing...

Gonna be a freshman here @ CSULB this fall [2009]!
I put my major as graphic design and might minor in photography.
I'm really excited ^^
But seeing the comments here, I am not so enthusiastic about the parking =/

this year they are really strict with incoming undergraduates applying and if you made the cut, consider yourself lucky!
CSULB is awsome. my first semester wasn't that great, but its understandable for anyone too, because the first semester is getting out of your shell, which is difficult for some since we don't want to.
but seriously its so fun!
LB is pretty well-rounded in every aspect which in my opinion is kinda rare since m ost colleges or universities special in a few fields.
this semester i found out that the programs such nursing, studio art, music, dance, kinesiology is one of the best programs in the nation. ..well perhaps im exaggerating but you can check csulb.edu to make sure
It's so diverse too! i see different ethnic types of people and i may think that i see...let's say... a chinese person but they are actually...cambodian. what i mean is that there is diverse population that it's actually interesting.

wow, i do consider myself lucky :b i really want to know the stats on the acceptances.
yeah, the reason why i applied to csulb was cuz of their good reputation for graphic design!
i'm glad csulb has a lot of diversity :] it should be really interesting to see the diff cultures and such ^^
thanks for your input =] i'm more excited now hehhee.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay CSULB thread!
Hey! Congrats on being accepted! I'm a freshman right now. Don't worry about the parking too much. It's mostly a pain for 1 -2 weeks at the beginning of each semester. If you have early classes, then you'll have a better chance finding a good parking spot!

I'm debating whether I should go here with that major or go to UCI with a Bio Sci major...

Oh my, you have good choice of words. But there is a fine difference between the city and the university itself. I, myself have not met anyone who is considered stupid or ghetto on campus. And that goes for being around the city as well. I am currently going there as a freshman right now and I can proudly say that CSULB is a very decent university. A lot of diversity amongst the students, a lot of clubs and organizations, plenty of resources and so much more that I have not experienced yet. You certainly do not have to degrade CSULB and the 37,000+ students. Shouldn't the pros and cons come from an actual student that attends there? If Long Beach was my hometown, I would have a little more pride than you.
For those of you who are interested in attending here. You know how to research
