I'm indian and I listen to ALOT of korean songs...
Im starting to get into Japanese music, like right now im obsessed with the song ' Only Human by K '
and some chinese music like by Rainie Yang ...
I dont think it's weird 'coz listening to other languages is pretty fun like trying to remember the lyrics and say the words correctly...lol
and i learned alot new words from listening to korean music ... the only person who thinks that it is weird that im listening to music from different countries is my step-mother... blush.gif
Mizz 11 says Live. Love. Smile. Achieve. 'COZ there is ONE life...live it HAPPILY unlike some pessimistic retarded clueless individuals that i have met...

i dont think it's weird. im hmong...and i listen to anything other than hmong (unless the song is really really good, then i listen to it)
kpop, cpop and jpop, i love! but like mexican/latino music...i find kinda weird (maybe becuz those kinda songs are not my type)
i think other languages are more fascinating to listen to than my own or even english

Even if I listened to english songs I wouldnt be paying attention to the lyrics anyway. For me, I personally concentrate on the tune/music rather than words. I judge a song's euphony based on the music. So no, I dont think it's weird at all.

Somethings just sound too good to ignore because you don't understand. It's cool except for when someone ask you what the song's about then you just want to learn the language.

I listen to Korean, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese (native tongue), and French (KYO <3). Occasionally Spanish too. =P

I don't really care what language I listen to, really. Just as long as the song's good. (:

Add me if you wish. :] Just mention that you're a Soompier!

I listen to lots of different languages too~

English, Japanese, Chinese (mandarin only tongue.gif), French, Romanian, Russian, Bulgarian, Swedish, etc~

There's nothing wrong with listening to other language songs...in fact, I think it should be encouraged.

Honestly though, when people hear that I listen to anything other than Chinese (native tongue) or English, they say something like, "Omg what/?!!, why would you do that? Do you even UNDERSTAND what they're singing??!!!!"

And it pisses me off because that's not the reason why I listen to music...if It sounds good I'll listen to it. yeesh~

But then I have a friend who listens to Chinese songs and she's Vietnamese.
There's nothing wrong with it and I don't have a problem with it, but she's made to be a hypocrit.
SHe's one of the people similar to those who've asked me if I even understand the language, and yet when I told her that I was singing to some song no in english/chinese, she basically called me an idiot and said that I'm "not allowed to do that unless I know the language" which is so ****** up because..

k sorry ^^;

If you only listen to one or two languages, I think you're missing out~

Of course it's not weird.
I love Korean+Japanese songs even though I don't understand a thing.
Regardless of what people may think of it, I still like it.

And besides, that's what we have translations& lyrics for ;p

I dont` think it's weird at all. I'm viet, but i listen to...
american songs, chinese, viet, korean, japanese.
and i listen to mostly all genre except opra and country. lol.
but then i was talking with my African American friend in school like 3 months ago.
and i told her i had more American music than any other Asian song she gave me the EYE.
LOL. Then i told her "Most of them were black music too" then she started screaming like crazy.
ROFL. she's such a freak, but then that's when I found out. The other cultures really don't
expect someone from another country to listen to their music. but that only goes for some...

Nope, not weird! Especially not on this message board. smile.gif
I'm Caucasian and American, and the only language I speak fluently is English. Buuuuuut I have a fascination with languages, which is probably perpetuated by the music I listen to, so I go out of my way to acquire songs in different languages so I can get a better feel for the languages. Plus, there's so much good, diverse music out there I'd be missing out on if I didn't listen to music in other languages. The important thing to me is more the emotion conveyed or the skill of the instrumentation/vocalization.
I have music in a ton of languages, including Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Romanian, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Tagalog, Thai, Malay, Ukrainian...

I have decided that Korean music must simply be the best (I'm an American of mixed heritage though not the least bit Asian) because it seems there are fans everywhere. It's not weird to listen to music in a language in another language. I think we like music because of the way a singer hits his/her notes or the way his/her voice blends with the music. So...you don't need to be able to translate a song to like one wink.gif I just wish people in general were more open to listening to music from other cultures/languages. Music transcends all.

I don't think it's weird at all, especially since I'm on a Korean music forum when I'm Filipino. Actually, I think I wouldn't like some songs as much if I understood them :X

Not at all (although most people outside of this site think so). Music is for everyone, so why should we be ashamed to listen to it? Who cares if the song is in another langauge? By listening to music from other cultures, we are broadening our horizons, becoming more accpeting of others, and learning a new langauge at the same time.

I listen to music in (from most listened to least)
- Japanese
- English
- Spanish (my culture)
- Korean
- French
- Thai
- Indian (Bhangra, Punjabi, Hindi)
- Turkish (just recently started listening to Turkish bands)
- Brazllian (Portugese)
- Chinese (Mandarin)

And I'm always looking for more.

HAHA I listen to just about any kind of music besides my own race-kind-of-music. Which is cantonese. i just think that c-music isn't as good as compared to Japanese or Korean.

I listen to a lot of Kpop, KR&B, JRock, etc. People around me and my family think that it is weird that I listen to music that is not in english. They always ask "what's the point?" (since I don't speak Japanese or Korean). But I enjoy the music so I don't care and If i'm interested in the song, i go find romanized lyrics and study them and then english lyrics to understand the meaning. Plus i have an interest in learning either Japanese or Korean in the near future. As a anthropology major, i think its kinda natural for me to be interested in music other than the same old, tired, american music being put out there. I used to be obsessed with John Mayer... now I love DBSK...and I don't know how that happened. smile.gif

There nothing wrong about it. It makes you more different and unique in a good way. It shows your more diverse around the world. I listen to various music, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Italian, and Australian. Even though, I'm born in America with a not-so-good speaker of other languages, doesn't stop me from listening. In my school, I'm probably the only kid who listens to music other than Reggaeton or American Rap/hip-hop. Also, you get to meet more friends around the world and form strong friendships.

The only Asian music I listen to is Korean, Japanaese and Chinese. At first I thought it was a tad bit weird.. but now I love it. ;D
My family thinks it's weird, though. They're all like "you can't even understand it~~!" and all that.. I guess for Korean, now I can say I understand a bit.. ^^
But I find it really awesome now~ And I get so excited if I meet someone else here who listens to Asian music. ^^

hmm... i dont think it is weird at all... people that think you are weird... is just because they have different taste in music... im chinese and vietnamese and i love to listen to korean music and i hate chinese and vietnamese music... i think chinese singers cant sing the well because the ones that enter the industry have no talent but that is me and others have their own opinion
