Hey everyone, I know that there have been numerous topics similiar to this one, sorry!
The pinned topic hasn't been updated for awhile, so I would really appreciate your guy's input!

Anyways, I've always wanted to go to UC Berkeley or UCLA. What do you think my chances are based on my stats? And what are my chances at other UCs?

I'm not the most brilliant and outstanding student, and I hear of genius's getting rejected from those schools, so I'm definately concerned about whether or not I would stand a chance/should I even apply.

Also, I go to a pretty competitive private school (do UCs look at the ranking/status of schools?)

Soph. Year:
Sem. 1/2
Chem H: B/B
Precalculus B H: B/B
English: A/A
Japanese 2: A/A
Music Appreciation A (1 sem.): A
Orchestra 1 (1 sem): A
World History 2 (1 sem.): A

Junior Year:

AP Chemistry: B
AP US History: A
AP Calc. BC: A
English: A
Japanese 3 H: A
Ethics: A
Orchestra 2: A
Science Research: A

Extracurrics/Awards
- Dean's List - 5 semesters
- Crew (Rowing) Team - Coxswain - 2 years - 15+ hours a week.
* Coaches Award (Novice Year).
- California Scholarship Federation - 4 semesters - Executive Board Member (Hopefully Prez next year).
*Coordinator of club service project.
- 100+ hours of community service (will do more this summer, hopefully be up to 200+)
- FACES of the Future Summer Intern @ Children's Hospital Oakland.

Tentative Classes for Sr. Year (If that matters...?):
Physics H
AP Japanese
AP Gov't B
AP Comp Sci
AP English
Peer Tutor
Math TA
Advanced Science Research
EPGY Online Calculus Course (Calculus C/D), mentoring by my current math teacher.

Thanks!

that looks a lot like my application and i got into ucla and berkeley. i think you have a pretty strong chance. and yes, UCs do look at school's status. for example, if you're getting good grades at a very competitive school than you're more likely to be accepted than someone who has the same grades but goes to a crappy school.

based on this year's stats...good luck buddy. but honestly you really don't know. uci and ucsd were supposed to be my backups (based on my stats)...and i got rejected from both but my friend with a lower sat and gpa than me got into ucla. some of my friends got into ucb but not ucla though they were more than qualified (and vise versa). just do your best in filling out the application...be hoenst...and pray that something will turn up smile.gif
