Well, I find myself not trying in any of my classes. Literally, I do my essays(usually 4-6 pages) 2 hours before class starts(and I still take some 10 minute breaks every now and then). It's like, I know I won't fail, but if I apply myself I can be OUTSTANDING. I suppose I have a lack of motivation or something. I have a 3.0 right now, but I find that to be quite horrible(funny, since I know it's bad, yet I don't do anything about it. tears.gif )

I keep trying to promise myself that I will get the 4.0, but when it comes down to it, I just get lazy and end up just getting B's.
Well, I'm going to make this promise one last time... and I will follow through, because I have to be a man that lives up to his word! wink.gif

Does anyone have a drive or motivation that pushes you to put some effort into what you're doing academically?
I'm very competitive in sports and stuff, but in the academics.. I'm just not motivated.

hm, i do the same thing and just manage to get B's most of the time too. i guess my motivation right now would be that i'm close to a 3.0 but not quite there.

OMG. I'm sort of the same. I work for ten minutes and have 30 minute breaks.

It's so weird but in high school, I used to be on top of things. I used to read chapters before class, used to know what the teacher was talking about.. etc. I felt so prepared! But now... I just keep on pushing things and procrastinating like mad. I don't feel efficient at all, but I can't help it!

*sigh*

yeahh I used to be one of those top students in high school
it's so hard to get myself motivated...even for a 3.0
I'm close but not there, and I just don't feel like working hard at it if my GPA slips a bit
I will need to find my motivation next fall...I am beginning to crave a better GPA

that's me as well. in a lot of my classes, i don't study until pretty much before exams, which I KNOW is bad. if i spent a decent amount of time studying for each class, i'm sure i could get A's as well.

like others have mentioned, it really just comes down to motivation. and at this point, laziness and fun time beat out studying.

Everything you said is just like I am. I am SO competitive when it comes to sports, but I don't push myself in academics....

same here.
i wasn`t too excited about the faculty that i was in before so i had no real motivation to excel in any of my courses :X
i would cram my exams and procrastinate with essays and all that
damn laziness ! +_+
probably the only reason i passed was to make my parents happy
but now after having some sort of life crisis (ahah) i decided that i want to be happy too
so i changed my majors .. i havent even started any courses yet but i`m motivated to do good ^^
hopefully next year will be different ;D

Sigh...I hate you guys. Damn geniuses, I have to study so much and work so hard just to around a 3.0, while other people understand everything the first time around.

lmao, that's me too! I hate school, it's so boring, so I don't even want to try. I've been told that if I only "applied" myself I'd be one of the top students, but naw. I'm tooo lazy. lol I can't even bring myself to go to class most of the times, but because of attendance policy, I have no choice (last year i did the "i'm not going to class thing and was invited to join others into academic probation lol) andI don't really care about my grades, like C's or B's, but I know that if I actually did the homework on time or at all (i do all my papers though, however late i start) and went to class I would get straight A's. I just have no motivation. Nice to know that other soompiers have the same 'problem'.

Yep. I used to be good about doing work, but now it's just hard to do. I think it's because I hate my current school and people around me don't do any work. I do do work, just not as often as I used to. If I really pushed it, I know that I could get better grades.

Intelligence does not necessarily equal money or sucess, but i'd rather have both. Education gives me the best advantage, so got to keep studying.

I had a lot of motivation last semester, and got a 3.5... which still isn't THAT great of a GPA, but better than any of the grades I got in freshman year xD

Anyway, this semester I find that I'm lacking a lot in motivation. If I do get it, it doesn't last long... I don't know what it is T^T I wish I could live at home so I would feel a lot more pressure to do well and study. sad.gif

yea... definition of "mediocre" varies from person to person. but if your standards are a 4.0 and you get a 3.0, it can get you pretty down. I've tried to get a 4.0 throughout my entire 4 years of college (senior now) and i haven't done it once. i got a 3.93 one quarter and that was the highest so far. I find that if i just study and do the minimum, meaning i turn in some form of homework, cram the night before the exam, I can maybe pull off a B for the final grade. But if i wanted an A i have to do extra... meaning doing the required readings, studying periodically for upcoming exams, etc..

For classes like sociology, psychology, history... i always have difficulty getting an A because there's just so much reading I never keep up with.

you just have to plan ahead. keep a schedule of every upcoming test, assignment, essays.. then start doing them EARLY. It's really up to you... if you really wanted to get a 4.0 you could. you just have to be dedicated and not the type of person that thinks you just have to show up for class and you'll somehow get a good grade.

3.0's not that bad, considering u finished the essay like 2 hours earlier... blink.gif
same here, but not THAT slack... sweatingbullets.gif i cram but i still study sometimes, the best i can get from doing that is like a 3.3, but i know i can get a 4.0 if i really tried~~~
oh well, i will next term FOR SURE, cuz i need the gpa for law school ^^
