During the march break, I tried out new (supposedly really great) products on my face and after about a week I stopped using them because they made my face really dry and made my skin feel tight. So I stopped using them and reverted back to my old products. The dryness/tightness faded away a bit (but still there) and I knew it would take some time washing it all out but then I started to break out a lot. I wasn't sure if it was because of those products I used or because it was the season change but this has never happened before. And now I started using a new face wash (Aveeno Clear Complexion Foamin Cleanser to be exact) and my acne has been getting a lot better but the skin around my lips have been getting weirder and very uncomfortable.

Basically, it started out with just the outlines of my lips being dry and very TIGHT feeling. It's not normal "chapped" and if you run your tongue its like very rough something along the lines of sandpaper but not THAT rough. Then it eventually spread to my whole lips, and I do already apply lipbalm very frequently (I use burts bees and vaseline). My lips would be "flaky" but not as in chapped flaky but in a weird dandruffy flaky way. unsure.gif
And now, it's spreading to the outer skin around my lips, so my chin area and the skin area around the corners of my lips are becoming tight and very dry... especially when I wake in the morning, my mouth area is so tight. I have no idea what's going on. I mean, am I lacking something in my body? like vitamin C or water or is it because maybe I've got something from my boyfriend?
I've never experienced this before and the latest time I could get an appointment with my dermatologist is next week because I've got so many tests and seminars coming up.

Any ideas or advices? sad.gif

What product did you use before?

I really don't think it's the products since it started on your lips.. unless you use it there too

totally strange.. do you use moisturizers and toners after you cleanse?

i have no idea what you're talking about, but maybe its an allergic reaction to a product you used?
if it continues & doesnt go away, you should def. ask your derm.

are you allergic to anything in the products? if you aren't them you should really go see the dermatologist.

Your problem sounds like something that my friend had an issue with : eczema.

Eczema is something that comes and goes. You may get small itchy patches... and essentially it can appear anywhere on your body, including your face. My friend would almost exclusively get eczema around her lips ALL THE TIME. It always looked like she had a really bad rash around her lips or some kind of allergic reaction... but it was definitely eczema.

Maybe that's your issue? Of course, your dermatologist should be your best bet.

I used a neutrogena cleanser and lotion and I stopped using them some weeks ago.
I always moisturize but don't "tone", what's a toner? sweatingbullets.gif

And yes, I do have eczema but it's been a couple years since that died down.. (although I do know it's still there because it never goes away) but this reaction was just so out of the blue, and it's never happened before.

A "toner" is this liquid that's usually applied after cleansing. It's supposed to balance the pH in your skin and help 'prep' your skin for further moisturizing. It's part of a "good skin regimen," but after awhile...I found that my toner didn't work for me at all so I stopped using it. I don't feel a major difference (ACTUALLY, I think my skin may be better off without the toner)... but toner's usually aren't too expensive, so it's worth a shot if you're interested.

Eczema can be caused by a lot of things; allergic reactions, stress... allergic reactions (my most common one)... or just bacteria in general. I have hypersensitive skin which reacts really badly to... a lot of things (unhappiness abounds).

I started using a million hundred different types of cleanser and chemical products that really made my skin go to a horrible state. HORRIBLE state. My skin had neer been horrible -- I'd been known to have great skin! -- and then it just went nuts on me. So I cut back the chemical products, resorted to using Neutrogena's Oil-Fre Acne Cleanser during my nightly shower, hot water (only) in the mornings and then Burt Bee's Day/Night (depending on the time of day; yes, I have two jars of the stuff) Radiance Creme (99.02% natural) and some 100% Aloe Vera gel for spot treatment (but I haven't really seen the aloe being too effective). My skin is clearing up gradually and the Radiance Creme definitely works...!

But I've heard tales that it's just really about discovering what works for YOUR skin...

thats happened to me a couple of times and i totally know what you mean. i went to the doctors but all he could say was keep applying vasseline and lip balm and stuff. my mom got me a lip conditioner from estee lauder and it helped a lot too. i think you should just keep using vasseline on your lips and around your mouth because, for me, it kinda starts at the lips and spreads past them :T
