the only time i couldn't eat when i had braces was when i first got them, and every month when i had them tightened.
do try to avoid eating toffee, because i didn't avoid that, and well i pulled out my bracket twice. i didn't really need that braces, i only got them cos i thought they were cool, that plus insurance covered the lot.

after i get them tightened, I still eat everything. Just more slowly =)
but i just got my wisdom teeth pulled, and i could only eat congee, soup, yoghurt, ice cream, smoothies, and salmon. maybe try those?

i normally eat macaroni and cheese whenever i get them tightened. mac and cheese have become a very good friend of mine.
same with porridge. but when the pain is gone i just eat normally. i kinda follow the rules and stay away from things like gum and popcorn.

The real question is what do you NOT eat when you have braces?? aside from a full apple (without cutting it ) and bubble gum?

I don't get any of that pain from my braces even when I first got it (was eating KFC xD) or when it gets tightened. I eat any kinds of food, be it hard, soft or in between
But according to my friends, who had braces, they recommended mashed potatoes, congee, pasta that was boiled till it is very soft (so you can enjoy those tasty Italian meals) or very soft rice with some scrambled eggs etc... Basically anything that was boiled to the max till it got very soft lol
