Are you serious? o.O Well...In my opinion, 3.3 isn't hard to get anyways. But I doubt they would increase it that much. This year, they only increased from 2.8 to 3.0 and thats weighted. However, if you want to get into UCs like Davis, Irvine, you'll need like a 3.8+, and Berkeley, San Diego, LA are like 4.2+

well, not all schools have linear grading policies. some teachers/schools have inflated grading systems o_0

Yeah!!, thats is true, for the mid-tier UC's, i think the personal statements matter a lot ._. They don't seem to care about SAT's and focus more on GPA, BUT, they have been really random- rejecting people good GPA's + SAT's and accepting others
Oh yeah, just make sure you check out each schools' impacted majors..., and don't apply for them!

personal statements can only help to some extent. if you already have stellar stats, i don't think ps will affect you DRAMATICALLY. however, for borderline applicants ESPECIALLY, i believe ps are most definitely the deciding factor because it can push you over that edge. since there's no interview for UCs, ps is the perfect chance to effectively communicate your passions, convey personality, ..etc all through the delivery of your essays.
make sure you write about some personal experience, nothing generic, that will distinguish you from other applicants who sport similar stats + ec.
i remember comparing myself to NARUTO in the open ended one. LMAO my pathetic attempt at being creative? HAHA. big mistake. T_T
