Does anyone know what is Atsuhime about ? Ratings seem very impressive.

The world may swoon over K-dramas, but I've watched from left to right, bottom and upwards, north to south, east and west, and still, I can safely conclude, J-dramas rank very high in my books. I very seldom watch a J-drama and remain stagnant after that because there is so much genki in the script ; I always feel oxygenated after a short but sweet spell of J-drama. Whether it is the setting, the script, the cast. J-dramas are decisive and they speak to the urban person better than K-dramas.

I agree with you with J-dramas. If I had to choose between any Asian TV dramas, I'd probably choose J-dramas over K-drama, TW-drama, C-drama, Thai-drama, etc. any day.

As for your question about Atsuhime, it's a Taiga drama that features an impressive cast with the rising Aoi Miyazaki (one of my favorite actresses BTW) as the main lead. Here's a brief summary from DramaWiki:

The 47th NHK Taiga Drama is a life story of Atsuhime who was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, then called Satsuma, and became the wife of Tokugawa Iesada, the 13th shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. She accedes to the highest rank in Ooku, the inner palace of the Edo castle where women related to the reigning shogun resided. Iesada dies soon after their marriage and Atsuhime assumes the name Tenshoin at the age of 23. She exerts herself for the Tokugawa clan and for the nation during the upheaval in the Meiji Restoration, headed by those from Satsuma. In 1835, Shimazu Tadatake, head of the Imaizumi-Shimazu family of Satsuma clan, and Oyuki are blessed with a long-awaited daughter, Okatsu, who later becomes Atsuhime. She grows up as a tomboy, full of wonders, yet warm-hearted. Meanwhile, as Satsuma clan is under going financial reform, headed by chief retainer Zusho, Tadatake is punished for being lenient with farmers. Okatsu, unable to absorb why her father is punished, charges over to Zusho.

The tv ratings I have do not give viewership for late night dramas. It doesn't have another title.
