right now i have a mac mini. it's worked pretty well for me since all i need it for is to use the internet and do my assignments.

i'm getting ready to start college this fall, and i'm thinking about what laptop i should get. the macbook and macbook pro 13" that are on sale are in my price range ($1000 - 1300), but i was wondering, since the pro is more expensive, is it really much better? i'm basically going to be using it for assignments, plus social networking and watching videos. is the extra money you pay for worth it? or should i just get the macbook?

i also want it to be portable since i'll be dorming soon.

anyway, i'm sorry if i sound really stupid--i don't know much about computers. ^^; but any advice would be appreciated!

I'd get the MacBook Pro; the build quality of the MacBook and the MacBook Pro are very different.

I hope someone can help me with this problem, it's SO annoying!

Sometimes I'm on the internet and everything is perfect and then all of a sudden the internet stops working. My wireless connection is fine, the signal is strong, but either everything loads SO slow or nothing loads at all and Safari says LOADING in the address bar forever.

This happens almost daily for like an hour or two, and then everything is back to normal. My laptop and family computer work perfectly fine and never have this problem so it's not the internet. I need to fix this because it's SO annoying to be doing something online and have to stop midway and watch the loading thing spin without making any progress!

I tried turning airport off, and turning off the computer and sometimes that'll work... for a bit. I can't figure out what's wrong with it when that happens!

ill take the macbook pro
after the student discount, its only a $150 dollar price difference
for that much, you get a superior build quality(freakin solid aluminum and it makes a HUGE difference) a longer battery life, the capability to expand to 8gb of ddr3 RAM(when it becomes more affordable), sd card slot(if you're camera person), Firewire 800(again if your a camera or video person), awesome glass trackpad with all the finger gestures and also a superior led display

i'd say thats worth the $150 bucks
even if you dont take pictures or make videos, i would still get it
if life gives you lemons, find the other guy who got vodka and make hard lemonade

My poor, poor macbook. Chipping defect on the actual case and the fraying of the magsafe adapter. sad.gif Gotta take it to the apple store this weekend.

I agree with xboredguy. I haven't done the math myself, but if it really is a $150 difference, go for the Macbook Pro unless money is really an issue for you.

Because my MBP broke, I got me an iMac! And I love it.

My MBP was a 15 inch, 2.2GHz comp with a 120GB hard drive.
My (sexy) iMac is a 24 inch, 2.66 GHz comp with a 640GB hard drive.

First of all make sure it's the Airport that's causing the problems. Use a hard line to connect to the internet and see if that solves your problem. If not come back and we can help you troubleshoot your Airport.

If anyone has the airport express, please clear up the air for me.

I've been reading into guides, and reviews keep mentioning how we need to connect a wireless router to it. Isn't the airport express a wifi router already? Can't I just connect my modem to the AE and use it as a wifi hotspot?

Thanks!

If you are planning on buying a mac, please do so before september.
Free iPod touch (after rebate) and if you want extra money, sell the brand new iPod touch you get biggrin.gif
PLUS, use the educational discount at apple.com on the left side of the store site.

Also, check the refurbished site to see if you find any awesome deals.

You're welcome smile.gif

well the MacBook is not aluminum and that alone is better for built quality.
that's just me since I've had all macbook models.

I got the moshi keyboard cover from the apple store. It's not cheap, but it's so worth it.

Hey I jst wanted to know if you guys think its likely that snow leopard will be coming out on all macs before september 8? Since sept 8 is the last day of the free itouch offer. I was thinking of waiting til sept to see instead of paying now and having to pay for uppgrade later.

I remember that they had free upgrades for new mac purchasers that didn't get the newest os before it rolled out.

Even so.. you could get it free like I have done.. rolleyes.gif
