To tell you the truth, there are now a LOT of dojos/dojangs that are just out to get your money. In the martial arts world, we call them McDojos (like McDonald's, get it?). I would do some research. Visit a few, meet with the people and see if you can attend for a trial week or month. Talk to the students, especially the black belts, and see if they're at a level you feel is high enough where the teacher really seems like he knows what he's doing. Talk to middle belts, like blue, or low-level belts like yellow, and see how they feel they're progressing(too slow, too fast, etc.). If they don't let you have a trial week, then it's probably safer not to go to that dojang unless you've heard some really good stuff about it.
Depending on how long you want to learn TKD and for what reason will make even more of a difference. Some schools teach Olympic style point TKD, then others do full contact with gear, some take forever to get to even yellow belt, and some you go home, come back, and you're a black belt. Choose wisely and hope you enjoy TKD, it's actually pretty fun.
Oh, I forgot to add...
I took TKD for about 6 months at my University. My sabunim was really honest and was an overall good guy. I only learned enough to know the basic kicks, punches and blocks (we didn't do forms), but it was fun nonetheless. I was taking TKD while shopping around for what other martial arts to learn, so I didn't really want to progress any further. Anyway, good luck with your search!
