I was debating whether or not this belonged in General Discussion, but I decided this place was more appropriate.

And the reason why I ask for non-koreans is because I already know how other korean people get into it (childhood, parent reads newspapers, born in korea, etc.). Personally, I was kind of raised on H.O.T. by a group of my sister's friends, then years later my cousin semi introduced me to Baby V.O.X., went looking for anime and voila, found BoA. I am korean, if you didn't know.


I'm curious on how you stumbled on korean music and why it attracted you. Non-korean people where I live don't like korean music, so on soompi, I was surprised to find a lot of non-korean people also liking korean music.

and i somehow found the music video "Yo!" by Shinhwa...

and i got addicted to Lee Minwoo since then...
at first...when I saw the "Yo! - Shinhwa" at the left corner of the m/v i thought shinhwa was a 2-person group with only eric and minwoo..haha...><

I was originally a J-rock fan. Then around seventh grade I stumbled across Seo Taiji. I knew nothing about him and couldn't find any info. I just knew vaguly who he was. From then on I developed this strange Korean fetish... Don't ask me why. I dunno. Then I found Seo Taiji's Ultra Mania music video and thought he was amazing. I loved it. From then on I started buying his albums and crap. And that opened me up to other Korean music.

i started listening to an online radio on winamp. then i heard 1tym and i thought the music sounded good and i liked it. then the radio played more and more korean music and i got to hear more korean artists.

I don't really listen to that much k-pop. But I started listening to it after my friend made me listen to one of BoA's cds.

I usually have no idea what his music is about or what he is singing but his voice is good and his dance moves are awesome. I could care less if I do not understand his music.

Actually it started when my school had these bunch of senior students ( mind u theres no koreans at our school ) were performing this song which was BoA - Sara. My cousin who was part of the group also performed and it was addictive lol. In 1999 they performed the song on stage and the dance was amazing! I went to my cousins house that night and he hooked me up with heaps of BoA and Shinhwa stuff. Ever since then i had a passion for dancing and i've also performed songs such as Shinhwa - hero and BoA - No 1 on stage. I guess thats how my obsession for korean music started. From 1999 to 2005 it's been a long time.

Well I started out first I found Bi then Boa and then my LOVE SE7EN!! I also love ! 1TYM, YG FAMILY, JINUSEAN, and my list is cotinuely growing. I am african american female so my friends consider me the odd ball =P

i was adopted by korean parents. neat?/not of the norm? normally...it's the other way around but my uhma and appa are great.

though it was specifically my two sisters who introduced me to tony an of H.O.T. old school..those monkey ears hit me in all the right spots back then.

i kept seeing pics of BoA pop around on the internet and saw her cd while i was in japan(but i didn't buy it). i downloaded the atlantis princess album when i got home and i loved it...although i think it sucks now lol. i also saw 2 kpop videos before i tried out BoA's music but they didn't attract me to kpop, although i thought they were interesting o_0

hah, i can never resist replying to this question no matter how many times it's asked. weird.

my first one wus..... JADED by linkin park, my friend introduced it to me, and guess what SHINHWA wus in it ^^

so i wus totally in love with those characters, and decided to look them up
and this is wehre my shinhwa obsession began, which lead to more korean obsessing

but i wusnt totally crazed

so realil it WAS shinhwa that got me all KOREAN-WASHED

A long time ago, there was this real-time show that used to air called "Music Video Heaven." 3 of the very first videos I EVER saw was "Just like Yesterday" by J, "Why?" by Baby V.O.X, and "One Love" by 1TYM.
