Hello, I'm an incoming freshman for the fall of 09 @ smc and I was wondering if Health (Health 10) is considered to be a GE class.. and to those who took Accouting 1 with Brookins @ smc, may I ask how your experience was? Please and thank you.

If I want to transfer from Mt.SAC to Berkeley, do I need to complete one course from all the lists on this page?:
http://www.assist.org/web-assist/report.do...-10&dora=GE

Is there a similar list for UCLA?

I also don't fully understand IGETC. Can someone please briefly explain?

You have to complete ALL your pre-requisites listed on the assist.org website. Some majors have a lot of pre-reqs while others don't so it is totally dependent on which major you are applying as.

Assist.org has all the UC school pre-reqs listed, just scroll through from the mainpage until you find your school (Mt. Sac) and then look for your target school (Cal/UCLA).
Go to your counseling office or transfer office at your school and pick up the IGETC form. There should be a list of classes you have to complete before you transfer.
Basically to transfer you must: Complete IGETC + Pre-Reqs + 60 semester units by the end of spring of transfer. Usually everything takes 2 years to finish the 60 units (or more, there is no cap) I highly recommend you avoid taking "unnecessary" classes and stick with IGETC and pre-reqs.

SMC IGETC: http://www.smc.edu/Projects/26/igetc.pdf
I don't think Health 10 is a GE. I'd refrain from taking any non-GE / non-pre-req classes. Unless of course, Health 10 is a requirement for your major..

Brookins: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=112498
I highly recommend using ratemyprofessors.com to figure out if the professor is right for you (meaning if the prof is easy or not). GENERALLY, the ratings are off because SMC is a community college...a lot of students aren't really "motivated" to study. They complain about professors that hold your hand through everything, so take most of the reviews with a grain of salt. This professor seems to be an exception to the rule, he has a lot of negative reviews...

Does anyone know if a college would no longer accept you if you pass a certain number of credits? (say beyond sophomore/junior)

Depends on where you are transferring from and where you want to go. For instance.. some UC's will not take senior level transfers. A lot of privates avoid taking in Senior transfers and some even refrain from taking Junior year transfers. UC's in general want Junior level transfers and the number of units depends on where you got it from; there is a difference between CC units and 4 year units.

I have an another question- Does it matter if I do not take Eng 1 my very first semester in college and just take it the next semester? It's because I signed up late and it's either most of them are full, or they don't match my schedule because of my other classes.

hey guys.
i'm gonna be starting at LACC in the fall and had a question.

so...
i wanna transfer to a calstate from a cc.
if i take the igetc requirements + the classes my major requires me to take (60+ units), would i go into a calstate as lower or upper division?

also, i took english 21A at SMC.
would it be transferrable to LACC? or would i be placed in english 21 again?
would i have to take the placement test all over again?

i called them to ask but they were NOT helpful at ALL sad.gif

Calstates dont use IGETC, they have their own version of IGETC you should follow. With 60+ units, you are going in as a Junior (upper division).
If you took 21A at SMC, then it would be most likely be transferable to LACC. You should call the transfer guidance office and ask them where to fax your SMC transcripts to.

I am currently at Mt. Sac, as a biology major. I understand most UC freshmen and sophomores take physics. However, my school only offers engineering physics, not biology related physics. Although assist.org says i should take this class many of my classmates have recommended me to wait until after i transfer to take the physics. However, I do not want to be behind when i transfer. What should i do?

Also, my dream school for biology was UCSD. However, i talked to a few counselors and they have told me that UCI is better, and UCLA is the best. I was very shocked to hear that UCSD isn't that great for biology. What is your opinion?

^ UCSD is SOO much better in the science field. If you want to major in biology, then go to UCSD. Personally, i dont listen to the counselors because half of the time, they dont know what they are talking about. I would pick UCSD over UCLA for bio.

Yay for another SMCer! Ahahha.

Anyway, can someone answer my question? I'm so skeptical about it.

UCSD is quite easy to transfer to. You will DEF get in with a 3.4... In fact, the middle tier UC's are all pretty easy to get into. You're fine.

Hey guys, I have a few questions about transferring.

1) Is it easier to transfer from a community college --> CSU Long Beach or do you think that it won't be difficult to get in after high school?

2) To those who transferred to USC, what GPA did you have + extracurriculars in community college?

3) Generally, is it difficult to transfer to USC from community college?

Thank you! (:

1) I don't think it will be hard to get into CSU's out of college. If you are going to CC, I really encourage you to go somewhere else than that particular CSU. UCLA, Cal, USC, UCSD, etc.

hey guys, i just have to ask it. entering college, i know i need to take an admission test and i did. let's say i did fine on it but wasnt past the standard requirement. i plan on retaking the test once more and if i do wel, i wouldnt have to take basic courses. but then i thought, since i know i didnt even get near the standard score, should i just go ahead and take my basics anyway because if i really feel like im weak at the subject then i shouldnt try and move ahead. what do u guys think i should do? school starts soon and i have up until this week to decide

I have a really huge dilemma going on right now and I don't know what to do. I can't register for a SINGLE class at my community college (Mt. SAC). I am an incoming freshman and i'm trying to register for my classes but every single class is full. I'm so stuck and I don't know what to do. I didn't sign up late because registration for new students began Aug 1st and I did all my tests and orientation early and I thought everything would go smooth but now I can't get into a single class I want. It's not even JUST english, math, science, blah blah I am talking about either. Stuff like abnormal psychology, humans and the environment, classes like that are ALL full. Assist.org planned out all the classes I need to take to transfer to my future institution but now I feel so hopeless.

I don't even know what to do anymore. One of my friends had the option of not even going to school Fall Semester and start in Winter or Spring. I don't want to do that. I don't want to NOT go to school during the Fall because my parents are going to destroy me and I would feel so hopeless and behind. Is there anything I could do? Do you think if I talk to the professors or e-mail them that they might let me in their class?

Has anyone experienced this? Any advice would help :/
