I'm planning to tranfer to a CSU but I live in CenCal and theres only like 1 big CC in CenCal which is Fresno City College, so its really really packed. It was war just tying to register for the right GE classes. So I'm pretty worried that there might be a situation in which I don't meet my 2 year deadline aka get-out-in-2-years.

Is it possible to transfer to a CSU during the spring semester? Or do I have to wait a whole year or a whole semester until fall starts again? Because that would be a real pain in the arse.

I'm also attending FCC. Parking sucks balls, I'm usually parking outside campus with my other car.

As for the 2 year thingy, good luck with that. There's a lot of students who has been at FCC and transfer by the 4th year after they completed ALL of their general ED and lower division for their major. I believe the people who transferred within 2 years have either already started with English 1A and Math101 and are taking 18+ units and summer classes. However, I heard rumors that you only need to finish Area A and B of general ed to actually transfer and can take the rest at a CSU.

As for going to CSU, I was told that you can only transfer for fall semester.

I know this might sound like a stupid question, but since TAG exists, what's the point of getting excellent grades? I want to transfer to UCSD and the minimum GPA is a 3.0 and I talked to the guy at the transfer center and he said that if you meet the requirements of UCSD then you are GUARANTEED in.

So my question is, can I really just get away with a 3.0 and get in? Why do people emphasize that you must get like straight A's in CCs then?

4 years?!?! What if I'm going as undecided? I mean thats the whole point why I went to FCC in the first place, because I couldn't decide whether I wanted an English or art career.

I'm taking Finite Mathematics (Math 21?) right now. But then a friend is telling me I need to take Math 101 and 103 too. And I'm in English 125 right now, which is the highest remedial class?! I've been an honors English student my whole life so I just find that really appalling. lol.

But yea like what you said, I only managed to register for 13 units this semester. sad.gif I'm planning to aim for 15+ units next semester and then taking 1-2 summer school classes.

It really depends on your pace man. If you took your placement test and scored in math101 and English 1A, then there's a good chance you'll leave after 2 years. Also, if you had already taken algebra 2 in Highschool and passed it, I believe you'd be exempt from the math courses provided that you show them your transcript. I think if you're already taking Math 21, then you don't need to take 101 and 103.

You need to take one of these classes in order to complete area B.

4a, 4b, 5b, 6, 10a, 10b, 11, 21, 26, 42, 45
computer science 26
decision science 21, 23
psychology 42

Math 101 is required to get into 103, and 103 is required to take any of those classes. Since you're already on 21, I think there's a very good chance of you finishing within 2 years.

You -can-, but you'll only be going in as a freshman not a junior. You need to have 60 credits to transfer as a junior which is easier.

And yes, you can only transfer fall now ... sucks, but the cuts are bad. sad.gif

Not only that, but tuition went up a lot. Some of my friends attend CSU and they would often times complain about how it costs much more just for tuition now.

I'm coming from out-of-state and I got residency recently ... I'll say this: it's really not that bad. CSU students don't pay that much in the first place. It's around $2000 per semester for any amount of credits.

I'd be different if we were paying amounts like $300/credit but it's not to that point yet.

Because your GPA will transfer over to the school that you transfer to. It gives you some cushion room in case your grades slip. That way, if your grades do go down, your GPA will still be above a 3.0

But in terms of transferring, as long as I stay within the 3.0 range I'm good right?

It's not like i'm going to be slacking off and patting myself on the back with just a 3.0 but I was just wondering so I don't have to stress myself like crazy trying to ace everything I can.

I didn't take the math placement test cuz they told us the same thing you told me about algebra 2. And I took Math 21 cuz it was in the Area B requirements. But I'm doing really bad in it right now, I think I might fail. blink.gif

And do you know if we need to take a PE class? Its not in the Area requirements but once again my friend is telling me its a GE requirement.

I really need to talk to a counselor. ph34r.gif

I'm currently at City College of San Francisco. If I wanted to apply to UC's AND CSU's do I need BOTH English 1C and 1B? I am currently in 1C right now. Seeing if i need to take 1B next semester too.

I think PE is required for your associates and not for transfer/bachelors. But I'm going to check tomorrow to make sure.

For UCs on the IGETC you do not need to take 1B and 1C. You just have to fulfill 1A and 1C. Unless your major (assist) says you have to take 1B then you can take both.

you do not get to keep your gpa, unless you are a UC-to-UC transfer. if you transfer from a community college, your GPA is reset upon transfer to 0.0. you pretty much get a clean slate. if you apply to grad school though, they'll see your community college grades. if not, then whatever, just get a 3.0 and sign TAG. lol.
