i heard that csu's are not admitting transfer students this year is it true?
thanks.
and it was probably answered here somewhere...but why do transfer students get admitted in march? is it so they can see our fall 2009 grades? and i go to a cc where they go by the quarter system...and i heard during jan. they want you to send another transcript??

They are only accepting FALL transfers due to budget cuts. Before they would accept Spring transfers too. And yes, if you get admitted they will ask for your grades for the classes that were in progress and planned.

sounds like me in the beginning blindly going through community college too laugh.gif except without the CSU thing because i never took my SATS and etc but i'm almost done with my igetc and pre req's, so i'll be blindly going through the transfer process once next summer nears laugh.gif

Hope you don't mind me asking this, how long have you been at your CC? smile.gif And what is the difference between the IGETC, GE, & Pre Reqs. courses? huh.gif I know that they are the classes you need to take before transferring, but they all seem very similar and I'm just completely lost..

hello hello, sorry for the late reply.
it's my 3rd year here...i want to get out already *stabs self* but at the same time i want to stay for awhile because of the budget problems, i need some federal stimulus to help with my acceptance lol.

here is a good summary of what IGETC is
Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)

The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum is a general education program that California community college transfer students can use to fulfill lower-division general education requirements at any CSU or University of California campus. This curriculum provides an alternative to the CSU General Education-Breadth requirements and the local UC GE/Breadth requirements. It is important to note that the IGETC is not an admission requirement nor does completion of IGETC guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice.

IGETC requirements are divided into five areas of study. The areas define a specific number of courses and/or units that must be fulfilled to satisfy the IGETC requirement. ASSIST IGETC reports display specific courses at the institution you choose that fulfill each IGETC area requirement.

Unlike CSU GE-Breadth Certification which allows certification of separate GE areas, the course requirements for all areas of IGETC must be completed and certified by a California community college to be accepted by CSU or UC. (See Certification section below.) If you are interested in a major that requires extensive lower-division preparation, you may not wish to use the IGETC.

The IGETC requires completion of a minimum of 37 semester or 49 quarter units of lower division work with a C grade or better in each course. A grade of "Credit" or "Pass" may be used if the community college's grading policy states that "Credit" or "Pass" is equivalent to a grade of "C" or better. If you complete IGETC requirements and your courses are certified, you will be required to complete at least 9 semester units of upper-division general education work after transfer to a CSU campus.

A single community college course may be listed on the IGETC course agreement under more than one subject area; however, it may be used only once to satisfy any IGETC subject area. IGETC agreements in ASSIST may be viewed either by IGETC area or academic department.

---
so GE and IGETC is the same

pre req courses are extra courses from assist.org, which helps with your admission if you already know what you want to major in

i need an quick answer!

so i even though i studied for stats test, i failed my last two..i'm taking 16 units right now and i'm thinking if i should drop it or not. i would need to ace my final to pass the class with a C which will affect my GPA also.
however, if i drop it i would have to take it next semester along with managerial accounting, business calc, and speech.
i also already applied for CSU's and put stats in progress.
will this affect me in any way? should i drop it?

I have a problem. So I just realized business isn't my forte and have decided to major in political science instead. The thing is, 2/3 of my current classes are business prereqs. I already have a W from accounting earlier in the semester, but I really want to withdraw from a business writing class as well. Is it too risky to have two Ws in the same semester?

Also a side note, my business classes are geared toward transferring to CSUF, but I now want to transfer to UCR. Essentially all of the business courses I'm taking now are pointless since they don't transfer and I no longer need it for my major.

Please help shed some light! I literally screwed myself over when I became too ambitious with the whole business thing.

I certainly wouldn't recommend taking two math courses if you're struggling with stats as it is.
I'm not sure about this myself, so anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't have to complete all of your lower division major requirements by the time you transfer. You just need 60 transferable semester units. So if Stats is for the basic skills course requirement for mathematics, I'd suggest passing that first and then taking business calculus at a later time.

Theres nothing wrong with changing majors, but assuming you've already taken Poli 1 (American Politics for the CSU History graduation requirement) and are planning to major in Political Science B.A., there's really only 3 courses left for the major. These are the courses I would have to take from my CC to transfer to UCR: http://www.assist.org/web-assist/report.do...0&dora=POSC

UCR is my backup school because of financial reasons, but I did sign a TAG. I don't know if the deadline in the following link is for my school only, but you should check it out: http://www.deanza.edu/transfer/pdf/tag_ucr_sho_f10.pdf

Hi guys...

So I got kicked out of Rutgers University after last spring semester and have been attending community college for the fall. I was studying Engineering and knew that the major did not suit me. I currently don't know what kind of major I want to pursue.

I am probably going to re-apply back to university after this fall semester. If I do get re-accepted, I still won't know what my major I should study.

My question is: should I go back to university or go back to community college and kill my general eds? How many credits of general eds should I fulfill anyways? Until now, I took two classes during the summer (got a C+ and an A) and am taking five classes right now (getting straight A's in all of them, nothing lower than a 98 at the moment) which total 21 credits. Should I just stay in community college for the next semester and possibly the next whole year, and transfer out to an even better school? Has anyone ever followed my path? Please share your experiences! I need help and am in a dilemma. >_>

i might fail though. and i'm also applying this year so it is gonna severely affect my gpa. schools make their decisions on FALL grades right? so spring doesn't matter as much as long as i pass? also, does anyone know if the gpa transfers over? someone told me PREREQ course grades do but not others?

this is only my opinion.
if you don't know what you want to major in, to save yourself a lot of money since university costs a lot of money, you can stay at the community college. i kind of did something similar to that.

I thinking of taking four classes next semester, but I am still debating because a lot of people think I am crazy for even thinking about it.
The thing is:
I want to transfer within a year and a half
I don't have a job, so it leaves me a lot of time to study and hw.
But I am kind of nervous because this is not the time to experiment. If I dont do well it can mean not getting accepted into UW.

I am thinking of taking Math, Psychology, Astronomy, and Art Appreciation.

^ Same here, I don't have a job so I can put more time into school. So four classes is considered a lot already? I have friends who are taking 4-5 classes and I don't hear them complain about the workload, so I guess it just depends. I wouldn't know personally, since I'm only starting next semester. And since I missed fall semester already I'm actually going to take 4+ classes to catch up so I can transfer in time..

Bumping because I have some questions. Hopefully someone can answer for me, please. smile.gif
So I just found out that I should take English 1B if I want to transfer to a CSU. If English 1B is so strongly recommended for transfer to CSUs, how come it's not listed on the IGETC? It only lists 1A + 1C; I was going to start with 1A next semester (I'm eligible) then do 1C. But now I guess I should do 1B instead? huh.gif My counselor said that if I don't take 1B at CC I'll eventually have to take it at the CSU anyway. So would it be alright if I didn't do 1C for the IGETC, or? (Then I'd be missing a course, but I read somewhere that that's okay..)

If I were you I'd just stay at community college and finish your general education classes. High chance you'd like one of those classes enough to major. Also it doesn't hurt that you'll be saving a lot of money.

You should ask your counselor for an IGETC course list which should look something like this (really old IGETC list): http://www.deanza.edu/transfer/pdf/IGETC 06_07.pdf (there is indeed a space in the link, so you have to copy it and paste. also don't pay attention to the course names as they're the CC's and not the CSU's.
Otherwise, check out assist.org. Click on your school, then click on IGETC for UC and CSU and under "select an IGETC area", click All Areas and you should see what courses to take.

Edit
Looking at the CSU GE requirement, it's just as reteP and your counselor says, English 1B is indeed required. Guess I'm in the same boat as I've been following IGETC as well, so now one more course to take next quarter.

Why is taking 4 classes crazy?
IMO, Psych, Astronomy, and Art are pretty easy classes.

Psychology and Art Appreciation are definitely the more easier classes. Depending on what the 5th class is, I say you go for it.

IGETC is aimed more towards for people who want to transfer to a UC. If you are ultimately sure you want to go to a CSU then you should just take 1B because like your counselor said, you eventually have to take it there. And if you're aiming for a CSU then maybe you should look at the CSU GE course list instead of the IGETC.

If you're transferring as a freshman, yes you do. If you're transferring as junior, no.
