Don't mistake IGETC for something else, it's just a certification that says you completed the equivalent of the schools General Education courses.

you have to go see the counselors for that mate. i reckon you can transfer early if you like if you have 30 semester units + done for cal states. my friend who had no more classes to take for his major / ge transferred in 1.5 years as a sophomore. go see ur counselor.

He didn't graduate HS because he was short on credit, I think he said 5. And than he started going to CC's but failed all his classes due to not showing up for a couple semesters. He got kicked out due to not maintaining some sort of GPA and he was about to get kicked out at the another CC. But I managed to get him to finally start completing his courses and get atleast B's and above now, but the idiot is not going to the counselor because he's embarassed.
He's completing the courses listed on the IGETC to transfer into csun without a high school diploma or a GED. Is that even possible? He says he failed like around 16 units per semester for 4 semesters but I think it's closer to 6. What can he do? He wants to fast track it and graduate from a university. Any suggestions will help. Thanks in advanced.

Can you ask him what his gpa is?
How many units hes completed. (csu credits)
As for transferring without diploma or a ged, i think you can (not sure). But if he's taking college courses, he should be able to pass the GED easily so that shouldn't be a issue right now. What he has to focus on is getting his grades up and getting to class. A fast track of graduating from a uni is loading ur semesters with the necessary units. However, your brother has to be the one that works on it. taking 20 units just to drop or receive fails on 6 units wont work for example.

it's harder to transfer from a 4 year college compared to a cc.

for example: if i apply to let's say UC Irvine after completing 60 units, but i get rejected. will i be able to apply again? or do i have no other choice but to choose from the schools that i got accepted to?

you can always reapply but UC's only accept application @ fall unlike CSU (pretty sure) so you'll have to wait another year.
ie: my sis got into ucb/ucsd but got rejected from ucla. she wanted to go to ucla so she stayed an extra year and got accepted when she reapplied.

AWESOME!
but if you do stay an extra year what classes do you take if you completed all the IGETC requirements already?
would you retake classes that you did poorly in to get a better grade during that extra year?
my major is business economics and i have to get a B average in calc and econ classes, but for my micro econ class i got a c... do i have to retake it and get a B or better or do i just need a A in macro econ to balance the average to a B?
thanks so much guys (:

for uci business econ, you'll need these.
-econ 1 & 2 (micro / macro)
-intro to computers
-visual basics or java
-advance java
-calc 1 & 2
-2 social science courses (prob finished with igetc)
jw did u get ur computer classes done?
if ur done taking all of ur igetc / major classes, take classes that are worth (ie: go learn japanese or spanish lol) it but will also boost your gpa <-(important).
my suggestion is don't retake those classes but you can ask ur counselor. also try joining a club or do extra curric. activities.
hope i answered ur questions ... hope im right lol. best bet is always going to a counselor.

just to put some things in perspective (of how easy it is to get into undergrad), i know a girl who transferred from PCC to UCLA with a flat out 3.0 GPA without any extra curricular activities. A friend of mine transferred from UCR to UCSD with a 2.8 GPA. bunch of ppl from high school i used to think were lazy bums ended up transferring to UCI. This classmate of mine at USC transferred over with barely a 3.0 from UCR as well. I know my examples are only in CA, but i believe most schools (IVY and other top 15 schools being exceptions) function in a very similar manner (not that prestige matters in most cases).
so yeah.... transferring is no secret. get a 3.0, you will get into a highly selective college (because the applicant pool is a lot smaller than the incoming freshman class). get a 2.5, you will get into a state college. of course, it's always nice to have a higher GPA (since it would make sense to increase your chances), but no matter what, put things in perspective and dont make "getting into college" your ultimate goal.
bottom line is... no one cares about a Bachelors now a days. you will not be judged on grades, but on performance and ability to succeed.
my one and only advice to ppl who are trying to transfer is this:
- go to school to learn more than academics.
- do things you enjoy, and have as much fun (responsibly) as you can (while studying hard)
- follow the rules and keep trying
- don't let ppl from prestigious colleges taking Community Classes with you think you are less intelligent than them. they just have big heads, and feel like they got something to prove. education doesnt show on paper... it shows in actions.

^i hope what you're saying is true..because i'm in the middle of applying to transfer to temple university...with a 2.8 gpa for fall semester...i actually didn't do that bad..just the number looks bad..i got 2 b-'s, 1 b, 1 c-, and 1 A...is that bad?? .hopefully my spring semester gpa will be better...but will they even look at that before making a decision..? that means that they'll have to wait until my spring semester grades are posted before they make a decision...will they be willing to wait that long...? or will they look at my gpa and be like "no...not accepted..."
hey do you guys think you can review my transfer college essay? i'll post it up if anyone wants to revise it and give me some tips or something
just to let you guys know i'm transferring from a uni to another uni. =]

pierce is really good when tranferring to UCLA and UCI because the honors program GUARANTEES admission with them. as long as you are in the honor society, then you have automatic agreement with them. you know what though? it doesnt matter what community college is the best, the most important thing is how hard you work for your grades and how good they are. if your gpa sucks from pcc and smc, then you might not get into the college you want to. just work hard for your grades and have fun! pierce is a nice school (: i go there right now and i love it! counselors and the parking sucks as a pinkberry, but a lot of teachers are great (: they motivate me so much and there are actually A LOT of smart people out there!

So right now I’m trying to plan ahead for my second year here. I know it’s recommended that I take classes geared towards my major, but that’s kind of difficult because I want to major in Hotel & Restaurant Management. I checked the articulation agreement on assist.org but the classes they provided for my school are outdated (it’s the agreement from 2004-05). I looked at the catalog (for the school I want to transfer to) and these courses listed on assist.org aren’t even in there anymore. Will it be safe to take these courses anyway? Also, there are only 3 courses listed. Does that mean I’m only required to take those classes at my current school and that I’ll be finished/they’ll accept me into that major? Since I'll still need to finish with at least 60 units total, what other classes do I fill up my schedule with then?
Sorry! I have so many questions.
**Oh, I'm also a bit interested in going pre-med. Yeah, I know hotel+medicine = weird combo right? Are there any pre-med students from/in community college? Is it recommended that I take a bunch of science classes in community college or is it okay if I start at the school I transfer to on my third year? I know there's a med school thread, but I just wanted to know if anyone from a community college could inform me about their experience.
