Yeap. I was just on their site and it says UCLA requires 3.2 and above for transfer students.
And for those that say that students at top CCs only make it and that it's what you make of it... Hmm.
Honestly, the people and the atmosphere of the CC (or any college) matters SO much.
It's so much easier to be motivated and active in your studies when you know the rest of the student body is working hard.
It sounds so wrong and fake but it's true. The atmosphere of the campus/college has a very strong effect on your study habits.
So truthfully, going to such CCs like Diablo and Santa Monica have a better impact on students than colleges that are known for complacency.
But of course, I'm only speaking in general. If you're not one to fall then please don't be offended. :]

i completely agree.
i go to Santa monica (SMC) but during winter, i went to los angeles community college (LACC).. and the atmosphere was completely different. i learned to appreciate SMC SO much more.. i was talkin to a guy in my class at LACC and he was like "i dont understand why you would ride the bus for 2 hours to go to SMC instead of just going to LACC. i dont think the school matters at all as long as you do well.." and i didnt want to go through the whole explanation of the atmosphere and etc so i was just like "i think it matters."
LACC was so dead and.. it had a gloomy atmosphere, while SMC is much more lively and the students are all very determined. that really helps.

If you're asking if they allow Sophomore transfers? Cal States... Yes. UC's... don't think so.

Saving money sounds better than having the "college experience." It's so expensive to go to a UC! Regardless you'll get the college experience going to a community college, just a more different kind.

It doesn't matter how long it takes at a comm college as long as you have the amount of credits. That's all that matter, lol.
UCs are anal about it and won't allow any transfers under 90 quarter or 60 semester unless a specific department says otherwise.
Cal States are very lenient in that you can transfer up to 60, but you will be undergraduate and have to apply as a freshman. Your high school grades matter and you have to take ELM/english portion unless you've taken college level classes in math and english.

what is ur major, that is very important, if business econ/econ major, there really almost to no chance. they dont' calculate ur GPA at the time of application, they calculate ur gpa when you submit the fall grades which is the update in January

Yes!, as long you have completed minimum of 60 units and have taken up to English 1A/101 - College English or whaever u call it, and a college math course. but this will put u on junior tranfer not sophomore. UCs hardly accept any sophomore transfer and they also look at ur Sat/high school records
so maybe if you take full units load and probably register at another CC so you can take classes there or online to get ur 60 units and major prereqs done....and u can always get a head start by taking colelge courses during summer already
Advice please (:!!!
I don't know but my brother went to CC first then Riverside b/c of saving money. He saved alot of money but he still owe alot of loan for going to Riverside for 2 1/2 years. but if he had went the first year then the loan would probably have double. and he didn't seem to miss out since he made alot of friends after transfering there by living in the residence halls and all...but it's up to you. I did the same with my brother, i'll be going to UCR this fall but as a transfer student
you apply during the fall (november 1-30 filing period), so it's like your 2nd year in CC during the first quarter/semester and then notification are released during March/April
I think for UCLA, i TINK they do look at your non-transferable courses (basically ur whole transcript), but those grades won't be calculated into your GPA.
I'll post up my stats.
GPA: 3.3ish
Major: Psychology
EC: Hardly any since high school
Essay: Pretty good. I wrote it the weekend before it was due. o___o
IGETC: Will be complete by end of Spring 2008
Accepted: UCD, UCI, UCSC, UCR, UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, San Diego State
Pending: UCSD
Rejected: Sonoma State LMAO, I turned in my transcripts too early so they thought I was missing some courses, but I'm actually taking them this semester. (-____-'' )
Probably going to: UCD. I was going to go to UCSC but UCD's psych program is better. Also, I need to stay near home because of an illness in the family.
Advice: Finish those pre-reqs! Also, talk to your counselor! I visited mine recently and she told me that I had two AAs (liberal arts and social science). I was seriously shocked. More things to add to my resume! Good luck everyone! Hang in there!
im not even sure if i got an AA, i need to check on that, but since i will be finishing igetc i think i will get an AA right? and congrats for the colleges you are accepted to
here's mine
accepted: csuf, sdsu, csulb, ucsb, ucr
rejected: ucla, cal poly slo ( i don't think i even received anything from them, so i guess i was a total reject lol)

Academic Criteria
* Junior-level standing (60 semester/90 quarter transferable units completed) by the end of the spring term before you transfer.
* GPA of 3.20 or higher earned in transferable courses.
* Progress towards completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer (see below).
There may be additional lower division requirements that students may complete--either at their current institutions or at UCLA. Should a major not have specific prerequisites, we expect students to demonstrate interest in academic study by completing coursework related to the major.
* Completion of the UC English composition, mathematics, and additional subject requirements by spring prior to transfer:
o Two courses in English composition/critical thinking and writing.
o One transferable math course that has a prerequisite of intermediate algebra or higher.
o Four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.
* Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), UCLA general education requirements, or another UC campus's breadth requirements is highly recommended for applicants to the College of Letters and Science and the School of Arts and Architecture.
Applicants to the School of Theater, Film, and Television must complete one of the aforementioned general education paths.
Applicants to the School of Nursing and the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are strongly encouraged to work towards the respective school's curriculum requirements

I would have to disagree with what other people are saying. I was actually in the same situation that you were in 3 years ago and I decided to go to UCR. I think that the time I've spent here is priceless and worth it. Yes, it's easier to transfer from a CC to another UC, but in the two years you'll be at a CC, you will not experience a lot of things that people are supposed to experience in their first few years in college. Also, it's not hard to transfer out of Riverside if you really don't like it there. Take me for example, I applied to transfer and got into both colleges that I applied to(UCD & UCSB). My GPA is about 3.2 too. And just to note, I didn't apply to transfer because I hated Riverside. I've come to really like it. I applied to transfer for a better program in my major. So in my opinion, you should definitely consider choosing riverside over CC if money isn't really the issue.

I was in the honors program and was the president of the American Red Cross club.
If anyone wants a better chance of getting accepted to a UC,
I'd definitely recommend enrolling into the honors program at
your CC, since most schools have transfer agreements with
other universities. All you have to do is maintain a good GPA
and take an additional 18 units worth of honors classes.
I applied and got accepted to:
UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara
as a Molecular biology/French major
I chose UCLA
ps: I'd have to say that choosing to go to a CC right after
high school was the best decision I made because I was iffy about my
major and those 2 years helped me decide what field I wanted to get into.
I couldve gone straight to a UC but let's just say that I saved so
much money and it was well worth it >.<
