i dunno about graduate school but as you prob know already, schools tend to look at your transcript a lot. i'm sure they'll look at ur grades after u transferred more than the grades of your cc days.

even if tehy do look at cc transcript, if u did great at UC, i think the UC one will be weighted more.

graduating from high school in june and gonna start attending cosumnes river college(sacramento) in the summer then transferring to uc davis

my major preparation classes will take up most of my units..if i can pass my gov and bio ap exams...that'll drastically lessen my workload [crosses fingers]

Does that reflect on the transcript, and would that hurt graduate school admissions?

I remember hearing that law schools will look at both transcripts for sure. As for grad schools, I would assume what kokonut is saying is correct.

TrungyBoi: I believe that you transfer the credits directly from your school in Boston, but you should talk to your community college counselor AND/or a counselor at the UCs you want to transfer to. They'd know best.

i have another question.. coz i just checked the classes that will be offered in my school this fall.. sadly, the ones that i needed to take were not available until spring semester.. i checked another community college and the courses that i wanted are available there, so i was planning to transfer just for this fall semester..

do i need to apply to that community college..like start filling up admission forms, etc...? or i just show my transcript from my current cc??

if u are already in a csu, it is harder for you to transfer to a UC compared to a CC student.
reason: u are already in a 4 year institute, CC students need somewhere to go, so they get priority.

im guessing ur attenting a cc right now. you need to do both. you gotta sign up to the cc (so u get an ID number + ability to sign up for classes) that u wanna go to. You also need your transcript if the class you want to take requires prerequisite classes. you need the transcript to prove that you are in that level. both are easy processes and it really shouldn't be too much problem.

on the other hand, if you are already going to a uc or something... you can only take a class in CC during summer. that's how it is for ucla so im guessing its like that for other uc's.

^ ow i'm sorry i wasn't able to make it clear.. yea.. i'm attending a community college right now..

since you've mentioned that if i'm going to a uc,i can only take classes in a cc during summers.. what if it's the other way around??

can i take a class in a university.. like just one or two classes..but not during summer.. probably during fall..even if i'm attending a community college??

coz my problem is.. the community college that has the classes that i wanted is a bit far from us.. and there's a university near our house.. so one of my options also is that, probably i can go there and take the classes that i wanted..

i hope i'm not confusing you too much..

thanks..

for like ucla... they have something called ucla extensions where anyone can basically take the class. but the class is like 500 bux. so if that university near u has that kind of program too, go for it.

cc's dont care if u take a class elsewhere. you can even go to two different cc's at the same time. the main purpose of a cc is to get its students to transfer. so if u are taking extra classes else where, they'll only encourage you.

Thanks to this thread! It really cleared up all my questions.
I'm in my 1st year at OCC. As of now, I really have no idea what my major will be. And I'm almost done with my GE classes so I really need to think of a major.
I want to transfer to a UC, probably UCI. And reading through all your posts, it's not that hard to get into a UC huh? Just do a good job on your classes and participate in some of the activities. We have to do some community services work huh? I need to start on that too.
Btw, what is the transfer agreement with universities thing? Some mentioned it but I'm not sure what it means.

i don't know if this is what you're asking for.. but in our school it is called an articulation agreement with a partner university. basically, they will credit all the courses that you've taken in a cc and will be enabled to enroll as a junior in that said university. Though you must still ask for an advise from your transfer counselor in what classes you should take for your major.. coz even though the university will credit all the courses you've taken, it's still depends on your major.. if the course that you took doesn't apply in your major then it won't have any use in that university you are transferring to.

How important is volunteer work and extra-curricular activities? I'm in the honors program at my cc and I spent 1 semester volunteering at a nearby elementary school. That's pretty much it. sweatingbullets.gif If I have a GPA over the average GPA of transfer students to that school, can they deny me admission just because I didn't have enough extra-curriculars?

^

They can deny you admission for MANY reasons, but if you're in an honors program, you probably do have better chances of getting in than the average student. It's really hard to know HOW MUCH volunteer and extra curricular activities will help you or how much of it you need, but remember to enjoy what you're doing. From what it sounds like, you should be pretty okay.

The typical transfer time seems to be two years and people go to their 4 year college as a junior. Is it possible to transfer with your 60 or 90 credits in a year and a half? I know its a lot more work but would colleges even accept your application?
