hmm.. i know they look at the spring sem too.. but some pepo already got into some UCs before the spring grades are out... which grades do they actually look at before they decide to wheter accept u or not?

Decisions are sent out before spring semester is over, so their first decision is based on the grades you have so far then after you get accepted you are required to send in your FINAL official transcript which includes grades for spring semester. They can revoke their acceptance letter if they aren't satisfied with your spring grades.

If I'm attending a community college, do I have to choose a major before transferring to a UC? and I know what IGETC is but is that considered a major too? Thanks

Yes, all UCs require you to choose a major and it's in your best interest to know what your major is while attending a CC so that you can take get a head start and take those pre reqs for that major. And no IGETC is not a major, all it is is a list of classes you need to complete before you transfer.

^ack i hate anthropology LOL, i can't really picture myself in africa digging bones and finding it interesting

I think you're talking about archaeology. mellow.gif Anthropology is similar to sociology, except the field as a whole doesn't have a focus on a specific country and it takes a different approach as to how cultures are researched.

do california community colleges require you to LIVE in california a year before you apply?

because UCLA requires you to be a california resident for at least one year before you can go there..
but is it the same thing for community colleges?

I don't know if anyone's suggested this, but for people transferring from Cali CCs to UC/CSU, I suggest taking classes that overlap for different requirements. I was able to take about 3-4 classes that overlapped IGETC requirements and was able to transfer to UCI in a year with just 45 units (including AP). If you really need the 60 unit minumum then you'd have much more freedom in picking fun or easy classes.

I'm actually going back to my old community college after I graduate from UCI next year just for a semester. I only need 4 classes to get an Associates degree so I might as well just get it...lol.

If I'm doing igetc, is there like a form i need to fill out at my cc? or do i just do the igetc?

also, if i'm repeating a course, will both grades go in my transferable gpa for UC's?

if you live in california for a year before you apply, you only have to pay in-state tuition. if you dont, you are considered as out of state student and pay out of state tuition. so technically you don't have to...

if youre doing igetc, you dont need to fill out any form. just take classes according to the igetc list. meet up with a counselor. they'll help.

for the repeating grade, only the higher grades will be counted in your transferable gpa. but UC still sees your low grades for the class.

Have you met your counselor yet? You should either set an appointment or drop-by, whichever they allow, and speak to them about fulfilling the IGETC requirements, they'll gladly help you pick out the right classes. I visited mine, but I also had the IGETC requirements sheet given to me during orientation after I took the placement exams (It contains which classes meet the requirements for each Area, and how many semester units are required from each subject/area to guide you in the class selection process).

I didn't know UCLA required you to live there for a year.. it's seriously true?
Sorry if it's already been answered but does anyone know the percentage of people who were accepted when transferring into UCLA from a CC?
I'd really like to go there and I'm from Texas so I'm wondering what the chances are if I go to a CC and then transfer in.

Also, what CCs are near UCLA and still have good transfer rates?

I don't know the exact transfer rate, but it is much higher than applying as a freshman to any of the UC's. Transfer students are given prioroity over incoming freshmen.Don't take my word on it, but I think the statistics is like 70-80% rate of going to any of the UC's.

As for a CC near UCLA that is good, your best bet would be Santa Monica College. That is where I am going to go! SMC boats its "highest transfer rate to UCLA." Not only that, but it has the fifth largest transfers to Berkeley as well. It is all statistics after all, so no matter what percent go to a UC, you are expected to do academically well.

_________
I wanted to ask a question about Summer "intensive quarter." If you are just below 60 cedits and want to transfer to a UC, can you use the summer period between transfering and SMC to get more credits? Or do you have to have those 60 credits at the end of Spring semester?

from what i heard, you are not allowed to gather up more units to make up the 60 unit limit by taking classes in the summer, after you have already applied.
