Has anyone applied to private schools (particularly the elite) from CC? I heard it's very rare only because these Elite colleges accept like 3 percent of transfer applicants. Does the fact that I go to a CC lower my changes of acceptance?

hi im a junior in high school right now and im curious about a couple things

does transfering from a community college to a real college or university save a lot of money?
and is it possible to get accepted into schools but attend a community college first?

College is college... there's no such thing as a "real college". And yes it does save a lot of money and the first 2 years at a CC is the same at a CSU/UC except CSU/UC go deeper into the subject I believe. And yes again, it's possible to get into a CSU/UC and out of state colleges, but you just have to do well in CC of course.

Yeah

community college = lower div ( can only obtain associates degree)
universities = lower and upper div

I have a question about Assist.org. What happens when theres a requirement course I have to take, but it says, "No Course Articulated, College does not offer comparable course." What happens then? Do I have to take the class at a different CC?!?! Now, I checked the other CC's on Assist.org, and all the other colleges say the same thing. I'm majoring in Visual Arts/Media by the way, going for UCSD.

if it does not offer at your local CC or any other CC close by, it's okay to miss that pre-req. if it isnt a pre-req... then pick a different class =)

I'm a freshman at UCD right now, and I'm looking to transfer to UCSD next year. If I finish 46 credits this year (44 already completed from AP classes in HS) which is reasonably attainable, I will have enough units to transfer if I wish. I have been deciding between a pharmacy major and a finance major, and there is no undergraduate pharmacy major here, and UCSD has a good economics major. I was wondering, what's the best way to answer the transfer prompt? It's kind of difficult since I am just a freshman right now and i don't have much experience.

"Prompt #1 (transfer applicants)

What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement."

This prompt seems to focus on experience in the field of your interest, but it's difficult for me to say much given I just started college o_o;. Since I'm leaning toward pharmacy, I'm thinking of joining the Pre-Pharmacy Club here on campus, but that's about all I can think of right now...and I really want to and need to transfer! ): help?

I'm technically in my 3rd year in CC, but first and should be last semester in a California CC. I'm trying to transfer to a UC (Cal or LA), but I never took my SATs or ACTs, am I gonna have to take those before applying? Can I take them after I apply or am I even eligible to take them now? Do I even need to take them?

i don't think you even need to take the SATs of ACTs unless your trying to apply after 1 year or something
usually you just fulfill the req's and apply

I'm planning to go to a community college for two years and then transfer to a universty. But today my mom told me that transferring students have to wait for several years to get in because of the never ending wait list. Is that true? Do they actually have a wait list for transfer students? It never occured to me that there will be a wait list. i thought they give priorities to transfers students first. mellow.gif

From what I understand, there are two different lists ... one for transfers and one for first-time freshmen.

You can definitely get into a college from community college within less than a semester depending on the college.

Um......I think your mom is wrong. ^^;;

From what I remember reading, uc takes top priority over transfer students than kids who just came out of high school. I believe you can read this at the uc main website or something. Can't remember where I read it from but it was something dot edu.

Transfer students do have to wait a few years, only 2 since we are taking the lower divisions I believe at a cc and once we transfer to a uc, we are taking the upper division. Basically we are getting rid of all the regular classes and getting rid of the classes that you would need to take if you were to attend an uc straight out of high school.

So no, we don't need to wait several years.......where did she hear that from?

how do i know? cuz i am a transfer student who just recently transfer from a cc to uci within two years at my cc. essentially, i went to a cc straight out of high school, finish my lower divisions at a cc and transfer to a uc to finish my upper divisions. save me a lot of money. biggrin.gif

I hear it's super hard for anyone transferring period.
They prefer the 4 year because they get more money.

At least that's what the transfer center at my CC told me when I asked about Stanford.

im majoriing in political science and planning to transfer fall of 09... ive taken almost all the required classes and only need 2 more classes next semester... would it look bad to just take some random transferable classes to make me a full time student next sem? or should i take something more like another language or some other political science classes that are not required?

and another quick question-
for the feewaivers.. i understand that u can choose up to 4 campuses... is it 4 campuses for both UC and CSUs combined or 4 feewaivers for each?
