I know that you're supposed to have a major before you transfer
but if I'm doing igetc certification do I need to have a major in record at my cc?
& question to anyone that can answer:
do alot of people transfer with an associates degree or w/o to a uc?
i suppose you don't have to choose a major but it doesn't really effect you at a CC i think its used so that when you go to the counselor's office and ask them for help on what classes to take, they will look at what your major is. however, all you have to do is the igetc first but it would be better if you knew what your major was so that you might be able to take classes that are part of your major and also on the igetc.
im applied to transfer for fall 2009, and i don't have an AA degree. maybe if i have the time i might work on an AA degree, it would make your resume look better when you apply for certain jobs.

and also after i submit it, when do they notify me if its accepted or not? (if they actually notify us at all about it)
^ and for the question above, you might want to write a lil bout ur community college experience as well?
You have to submit your TAG before you do your application. You have to meet with the counselors and they will do the contract right there. They will look at your transcript, see if you have all the requirements done. Some UC notify you right away like UCI. Some will send you a notification, like UCD.

but if you do the transfer, do you have to go to a cc around where you live?
i live in the bay area, northern california, so if i go to a cc, it'd probably be foothill or de anza,
but i really really reaallly want to be in socal after high school :x
so is it possible to go to a cc in sd, la, etc and then transfer?
or would it be harder to do?
i hope that makes sense.. =x
and also, is it hard to maintain above a 3.5GPA in a cc?
like compared to hs :/

Sorry to bother again! but I already signed the TAG agreement and also approved.. but on the UCI TAG website, it says that i only need to have 2/3 of major prereqs completed... but do i need to have ALL prereqs completed prior to transfer?

You can go to any cc. Many people from Foothill/DeAnza transfer to UCLA, UCSD, UCI etc. I know De Anza has TAG agreements with UCSB, UCSD, UCD. Foothill has one with UCLA.
Depending on your major, it shouldn't be too hard maintaining a 3.5 gpa. Compared to HS, you have to keep up with the schedule. So no reminders of when your hwk/tests/midterms are. They usually provide you with a calendar, so use it.
BTW, I loved Foothill.

I'm not really certain if the UC's or CSU's requires or not. I don't know if private schools
still require even when you're in cc. Can anyone help me on this so I can take some tests
and have it set.
Thanks

How would you know what classes are required if you haven't decided on a major?? Each major has different requirements. You should pick a major, find out what's required, then work towards completing the requirements. Once you transfer, I don't think they'll let you switch majors because you're already an upperclassman.
Finishing all your requirements and completing as much of your prerequisites is more important than fulfilling your GE requirements. You can always do your GE after you transfer. But anyway, finishing all the prerequisites for your major doesn't necessarily give you priority, it just increases your chances of getting accepted. If they had a choice between two applicants, one who finished a lot of major prereqs. and one who finished a lot of GE's, they would most likely choose the one who finished a lot of major prereq. because those are more important.

But wouldn't pre reqs differ with each college? It might be different for me b/c I'm applying to transfer and I'm only a freshman...so I definitely won't have my pre reqs done, lol. Any advice?

If you're planning to transfer as a sophomore in college (meaning you only stay at your community college for a year), then your chances of getting in are a lot slimmer. Since you won't have enough college credits, colleges will also look at your high school stats, meaning your high school GPA, your SAT/ACT scores, etc. Prerequisites are generally the same. Like if you're a biology major like me, I would have to take calculus and organic chem. I would then take those classes at my community college (knowing that they're UC-transferable). Those classes fulfill some of the prerequisites for a microbio major at berkeley, a bio major at ucla, and bio majors at other UC's. So you can fulfill prerequisites for several different UC's at once! Use assist.org to see what classes you need to take for your major.

Heeeey! I go to City too! My registration date isn't until Dec 3, so that's pretty late. Priority is given to athletes and students who have been there for a while. Next year, you'll be able to get more classes. I actually got all the classes I wanted this semester. I just kept checking the schedules and see if the classes opened. And what do you know... THEY DID!! I managed to calculus, chem, english, AND stats! And this is just my first semester.
Oh, and to answer your question, the closest one that I can think of is Skyline College in San Bruno.
