Hey All,

PPHeewwWWwww....I was so discouraged yesterday after talking to her. Thanks everyone for your replies.....
I'm so glad I found this forum!!! I don't have any Ds/Fs. I think I might have 2 Cs tears.gif sweatingbullets.gif
I'm working my ass off right now actually... I got straight A's for my fall semester and currently taking spring semester and is working real hard to keep my grades up.
Is it true that only UC Riverside offers a Business program, along with only Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona?? The counselor told me that UCLA doesn't offer any business program so if I EVEN have a chance of getting in it'll still be pointless coz they don't have a business program. And she said forget about USC, coz you'll probably never gonna get accepted. crazy.gif sad.gif She didn't mention anything about UCI - so V12Juice, any thoughs? She highly recommend that I apply for Cal State LA and perhaps Cal Poly Pomona, she kindly hinted that I probably won't get into Cal State Long Beach, so also again don't bother trying... LOl is a 3.0 that bad?? hahahaha...
I'm trying really hard to get classes at PCC, but it's so difficult to get even one class you might need there... But anyhow... Thank you all very much for your replies and your kind support! I'll be working my butt off this summer and fall and we'll definitely let you guys know if I get into any where or might have to dig myself a hole and hide under there. sweatingbullets.gif tears.gif sweatingbullets.gif

Thanks guys and have a wonderful day!!! phew I'm no longer depressed! haha....

UCI has a new business program, UCLA has a business Econ program, UC Berkeley has Haas school of business, etc. I'd be aiming at UCI's business if you really are into business. Avoid getting C's from here on out and try to aim for A's mainly. UCLA's biz-econ is extremely competitive to get into, and Haas...well lets just say transfers with a 4.0 get rejected.

Hi all,
I'm a sophomore in cc (my GPA is 4.0 currently) and planning to transfer to UCLA as business econ major in Fall 2010
my questions are:
  • Is extra curricular program really important to help to get accepted? If yes, what kind of extra curricular programs?
  • can you guys please suggest a good intership programs for business econ major?
  • I read on assist.org that the calculus course requirements should be met as early as possible. I will take calculus 2 by the spring before I transfer because when I took the placement test, I was placed in intermediate algebra. Do you guys think that will affect the admission decision?

thank you smile.gif

^ I heard that for transfer students GPA and Finishing all your transfer credits/requirements matter a lot more then extracurricular activities.
Let me know when the sky falls down so I can catch it.

No, GPA and completing your Pre-Reqs + IGETC is the most important thing to do.

You find an internship, no one gives you one.

No, but try to finish your math pre-reqs ASAP.

thank you smile.gif

Biz-Econ at UCLA is a very very competitive major. Keep that 4.0...I know some who got rejected with a 3.9

It's better to ask the UC reps who occasionally come to the school for students who have questions about transferring.
I asked my UCLA rep and she told me Ws are okay, but if I get a W in a major prep course, I'd have to retake that.

most PCC counselors are rude and not at all helpful.
If you do TAG you'll for sure get into UCR and UCI smile.gif

There's no way UC Riverside or Irvine will reject you. I got into UCLA with a 3.2

Provided you come from a CC with a transfer alliance program or something similar, you are pretty much going to get in on just GPA alone. When you apply and get in, you are admitted as a pre-busines economics major. You still have to take a few classes to determine whether or not you get into the program.

When you get into UCLA (or wherever), search around. The internships are there and you just have to find/network for them.

My friends took calc 2 the spring before they transferred and they were fine. One had a 3.5 and one had a 3.8. I don't think it matters as long as you actually finish it.

Hello biggrin.gif
I have a few questions about Community College~

Ok, so I'm going to a CC after graduating H.S. this year, and my goal is to get into Berkeley's Haas School of business
I'm planning on meeting all the requirements stated on assist.org
However, just as a backup, I'm going to squish in all the IGETC requirements too, that way I'll be guaranteed admission into any UC (other than Berkeley and LA)

Anyways, my questions are:

• Do I need to sign some kind of contract to enter the IGETC/TAG? Program before I start the Fall semester?
• I applied for FAFSA, so I was wondering when do I find out how much financial assistance I'll receive for my community college fees?
• Also, I've already signed up for my classes for Fall semester 2009, and I was wondering if I could get some opinions on my schedule:

Mandarin Chinese 2 (Hoping to jump to 3)
Freshman English
Applied Calculus (Recommended over regular calculus for business majors)
Introduction to Business
Psychology in Modern Life

I don't know; my schedule feels really basic (and kind of easy) to me, but they add up to 17 credits, and if I take more than 19, I have to pay extra or something like that ><

Thanks in advance to all the wonderful people here helping out the dummies like me ♥♥

IGETC is only the name of the GE standard you follow at CCs. Completing IGETC will be seen as having completed all of your GEs at UCs.
TAG is transfer admissions guarantee. You will need to apply for tag, meet with a counselor from the school you're applying to, and sign a TAG contract with them. This is done as you apply to transfer. It doesn't need to be done before you start Fall semester.

FAFSA varies with time so just wait it out. If it has been unusually long you can try to contact them.

You're schedule does seem very easy but being a freshman that's normal. Are you sure if you take over 19 units you have to pay more? I've never heard of that. Usually over 19 units you have to petition the right to take more units. Right now 17 units doesn't seem too much considering language courses are usually worth 5 units, I'm not sure if that's the same at your school. You could always try to add another elective that fulfills your GE requirements?

There is no TAG contract for Haas. Let me ask you something, are you an international student? Haas is VERY picky and if you don't have a 4.00 (Or near that), then your chances are slim to nothing. Make sure you check assist.org and make sure you are taking the right pre-reqs. Haas only took 65 transfer students last year, and you need EC's and all your pre-reqs finished before you apply to be considered as a competitive applicant.

Hey~
Yah I know that xD
I'm going to try to get in there, but if I fail, my school has a guaranteed admissions contract with all the UCs (except for B and LA)
So it's like a backup for me

I'm not an international student, but I'm going to try and get a 4.0 at my CC

Oh really?
If I don't have to pay more, I'll sign up for another class~
My school day ends at 1:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for me, so I have plenty of time for another class xD

Thanks a ton for answering my questions biggrin.gif

can anyone tell me how the tag contract exactly works?
I'm kinda confused. for example, for davis, for the qualifications needed to sign up for tag it says to complete at least 30 units. does this mean that I need to have 30 units already completed?

Yes. 30 units and then sign, then 60 units must be completed before you transfer.

Sorry, I have one more question ><

I took one class each summer while I'm still in H.S. at the CC I'm going to this Fall
I just realized that almost all of them count as UC transferable credits and are also classes listed on IGETC [and the classes Berkeley requires]
Should I still take another class in that specific section when I'm actually a full time student at the CC?

For example, I took Psychology and got an A when I was between 10th and 11th grade, and it's a class listed under Area 4
It's still listed in my official CC transcript

Ask your counselor if you can just skip it.

If psych fulfilled your area 4 requirements then you don't need to take anything else.

Okay so I took chem spring 09 and i got a D cuz I never showed up, it was too late to drop, and I figured I was just going to retake it. But when i took that class I was set on being a nursing major. Now I changed my mind and for sure going for my business degree, where I don't even need to take chem.

Can I just retake the class, drop it for a W and have it replace the D without jeopardizing my chances for transfer?

BTW, I'm just looking to transfer to SDSU
&I HATE chem with a passion. (:

this thread is so helpful (: i just read through the first 10 pages and the last 2 ;P
my eyes are killing right now though, so i'm going to ask my questions and hope that they aren't repeats

for those of you in cc or who have already transferred, do you feel like you've missed out socially on the whole college experience? do you feel like it's harder to adapt and make friends after transferring as a soph/junior/whatever since you miss that initial "bonding" experience and all those orientations?

do ucs give local priority? so if i'm at a cc by ucla and i have the the same transcript as another applicant in sacramento, would i get priority since i'm local?

about how much cheaper are ccs than ucs when factoring room & board, books, etc (not just tuition)? i read in a post on the first 10 pages that it's only about 20% cheaper? O_O i thought it was much cheaper than that.. how much are you guys saving per year as opposed to going to a uc?

and last question, this isn't so much cc related, but, do undergraduates school matter a lot? i plan on going to graduate school (medical related, maybe dentistry), so would my undergrad school matter a lot? should i spend 1-2 years in a cc and get into a really good uc such as berkeley, la or sd, or should i just go straight into uci or ucr as a freshman out of hs?
ty to anyone that answers these questions sweatingbullets.gif sorry for so many!
