Hi! I'm transferring this year from a community college to UC San Diego.
I'm a bio major and I'm taking ochem -___- which isn't going very well at all. I'm at risk of having a D in the class (but hopefully I can maintain a C) I can't drop the class because I'm only at around 61.5 units WITH the class so I'll be short some units if I drop. My questions are:

1. can you still transfer with a failing grade (or a grade lower than a C).
2. is it possible to make up the credits over the summer and STILL transfer? or do the UC's want to see that you have all your units done by the spring semester?

I'm hoping that someone here has gone through something similar to this before sweatingbullets.gif

ahhh, I'm afraid I'll have to spend another year at a CC.....................
My last day to drop the class is FRIDAY, so I'd be veryyyy grateful if anyone could give me a response by then.
I'm going to go see a counselor at UCI tomorrow... but I wanted to get some insight from you soompiers... you know, just in case anyone has gone through this here and can give me any sort of advice. It's already too late to change the class to credit/no credit... and if dropped, I'll get a W, but that can be taken care of so I'm not worried.

THANK YOU!!!

As long as in ur acceptance letter it didn't say you have to pass all your classes then i dont think it'll matter. (btw people do transfer with lower then 60 credits also)

You can always take the course again during summer. But go for the C... might as well.
It's better for u to have all the credits necessary for your transfer by the end of spring, however you can take them during summer as well and get credits. I've known people that have taken courses during summer right before they transferred because the college wanted to have that class completed before they transferred.

good luck. i hope i helped... and im just saying all this because i know a lot of people that transferred. but a counselor from a UC might be a better source.

just wondering, you dont have to tell me if u dont want to, what was your gpa at the time of ur acceptance. feel free to pm me if u don't want to tell me here. it's cuz im gonna apply next semester (im 12 units short) and it'll help me tongue.gif.

Wow, hard decision here.
My friend transfered with less than 60 units.

But like kOkOnUt said, you can always take summer school right before you transfer.
I would guess school rather see W than d, even with less complete units... no?
Call and ask school though..

(ochem is HARD, im about to take w, cause i am barely getting c and i study my buttt off!)

I mean ochem is probably the core class they look for, since your major is bio.

Wish everything works out for you.

Friday is the last day to drop with W as well.

Im in the same boat sweatingbullets.gif

@ kOkOnUt: My GPA prior to this semester was around a 3.6, I think. A lottttt of people I know got into UCSD with way lower GPA's than mine though so I wouldn't worry too much :] are you applying as under a bio major?

Thanks for the advice, everyone! :] actually I talked to my professor and I calculated my grade and I need about an 80% on the final to get a C. So I think I'm going to go for that and hopefully I'll be at SD next semester ;D
