Well, I'm gonna be moving into my own apt (with my boyfriend) soon, and i know i'm gonna have to be the one to cook (i can cook, but all this time, i've been depending mostly on dorm food and my mom's cooking). My question is, how much money do you soompiers pay a month (or a week) for ingredients and such? (of course, i wont ALWAYS be cooking, i'll probably go out to eat twice a week for dinner).

and any tips on cooking for two (like, ingredients you know you'll NEED in your kitchen 24/7 (like garlic and onions))?

btw, i'll be cooking korean food half of the time (and just other random things the other half)...

...I'm sure costco will be my best friend soon happy.gif.

i go food shopping every week & spend ~$50...give or take depending if i need more food/ingredients or not. but it's so much cheaper than eating out/ordering in every day, or even a couple times a week.

I love to cook. I do the cooking in my household and for a family of 4, I can get it down to about $150 every two weeks. Granted I have to do a lot of comparison shopping, buy in bulk, make cheap meals sometimes, etc. It's hard to do the fun cooking where you get to experiment with exotic dishes, but I guess that's more for cooking as a hobby, and hey, hobbies are expensive. If only they still did those grocery shopping sprees...

^i want to do those nice "hobby"-like dishes EVERY NIGHT...but god that will kill my bank account. $150 every couple of weeks for 5 people is pretty good smile.gif...and yeah, i guess i'm going to have to settle for cheap dishes pretty often though.

it can be quite costly for me cuz i love to have steak (rib eye, new york) in my diet, as well as lots of guacamole. tomatoes and avacaodos arent cheap if they're aren't on sale, especially in american markets.

Hmm.. I'm on a college budget (just graduated this wknd whoo!), and I probably spend a total of $400/month on food: $200 at American grocery, $150 at Korean grocery, $50 eating out. This is for 2 ppl lol. I cook A LOT. I make Korean food most of the time, American dishes occasionally, and sometimes desserts too. I don't cook as a hobby though... he just eats enough for 3 ppl in one sitting. sleep.gif"

lol SsUaSmAmNy I do all the cooking and I do all the dishes too. I'm pretty traditional though. Besides, he spends a lot of money paying for anytime we eat out together!

I spend about $400 a month for food to cook that doesn't include meat. I spend about $300 a month on meats, but I buy in bulk and get it from a butcher shop (they can be cheaper sometimes).

ussually around 80-100 a week. Even though I'm still with my parents they don't buy the ingredients and food I need so I tend to have my own lot of food. I recommend a sack of potatoes, sack of onion, tank of olive oil, some basic herbs and spices, bundles of garlic, milk, flour, lettuce, tomatoes, red, green, orange pepper, tomato sauce, cheese of sort, bread, eggs, rice or noodles of some sort. There's a crap load of combination of food you can make with those ingredients I listed. Most of my money goes into meat like salmon, veal, lamb beef or chicken. Like one of the previous person, I have to have steak once a week.

about $100-150 a week...without including the money we use for eating out which is usually about twice a week...
its probably because we eat differently...i eat lunch and a snack nearly everyday cause i don't really have time to eat. and he spends most of his time eating hahahaha laugh.gif not really...he likes to eat meat, whereas, i like to eat fruits and veggies...so he does the cooking -__-;
and i can't really cook...i dont even know how to make ramyuns...its either too watery or too spicy

You should not be the one doing all the bending...compromise is two way street.

i spend about 40 AUSTRALIAN dollars for one person per week.
my fixed essentials would be
- 2 litre milk
- wholemeal bread
- dozen eggs
- fruits (kiwis/grapes/apples)
- ham/tuna
- vegetables
- rice
others are
- 500g of mince beef
- 2 salmon cutlets
