I've only recently gotten into Sigur Ros. A friend of mine gave me the latest album..the one with the naked people running away on the front cover (LOL).. anyway, so far its pretty good stuff. Although i'm pretty new to this ambient music style, i don't mind as background music when i'm doing my work..quite relaxing really.

Albert Hammond Jr (of The Strokes fame) is set to release his second solo album soon! His first 'Yours To Keep' is a fantastic album. He has a unique voice and one that i did not expect to come out of him (mainly because i hardly heard him speak...). Anyway, the new song (and possibly single?) up on his myspace is called 'GfC' and it has catchy hooks.. wicked.

i just had a big indie rant. mellow.gif biggrin.gif

I was just watching a Sigur Rós music video (Glósóli) on Youtube! It was absolutely gorgeous. I gotta check out their new album!

I'm also anticipating Albert's new album verrrry much. His first album was fantastic and I'm hoping this one will be just as good, or better. smile.gif

Yes, I highly recommend Sigur Ros's new album, it is pure bliss. happy.gif

I'm not a big fan of covers of recent indie songs.. it just seems a bit odd. Like Kate Nash covering Arctic Monkey's 'fluorescent adolescent' was a bit off.. don't get me wrong, Kate Nash has a great voice but i...didn't fancy that cover very much.

I'm not really into ambient stuff. I just like the one song by Sigur Ros. Same with Explosions in the sky and Four Tet, I only like one or two songs.
I actually do like some covers. I like Ben Lee's/GoldSpot's cover of Float on by Modest Mouse. OR Bettie Serveert's version of Lover I don't have to love by Bright eyes and Tally Hall's cover of Smile like you mean it. Although I think these are kinda old now. But usually, the originals are better.

Anywho, some artists I've recently started listening to:
Kasabian
Electric President
The Blow (True affections is a good song)
Tally Hall
The Futureheads
The Hush Sound
Sea Wolf
Wintersleep
Vampire Weekend
Owl City (reminds me of postal service)

Kasabian! They are awesome, I absolutely love 'Shoot The Runner'. biggrin.gif

Has anyone heard the cover of Manu Chao's "bongo bong" and "je ne t'aime" by Robbie Williams and Lily Allen? It's pretty catchy, and it was produced by Mark Ronson. smile.gif

Tilly and the Wall... their names have been dropped a number of time on Triple J. must check them out asap

Their song 'Lost girls' is quite good! But besides that, I find that their other songs all kinda sound the same.. not really an album I could put on repeat.
Ohoh also! I think I saw somewhere that Tilly and the Wall doesn't have a dummer.. instead, a member of a band wears tap shoes and taps! How cool is that ><

OH YEAH... now i remember... they did an interview on Triple J TV and there was tap-dancers... i found that pretty cool..

yeah, i know what you mean when you say you can't listen to an album over and over. too much of anything isn't always good... =P

I'm getting into a lot more indie pop at the moment...than usual.
Andrew Bird is someone i've heard of but never really listened to his material.. I heard 'banking on a myth' and just fell in love with everything about it...the guitars, his voice..brilliant.

The Dodos are another band who i discovered when i saw their 'Fools' music video on Rage (late night music show).. they were incredible. So far i've only got a few of their songs, but their album 'Visiter' is chock-full of indie-pop greatness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhLRxui7vXU

Fleet Foxes are another band that is catching my attention. Their self-titled debut album is pretty good. Also, check out 'English House' on their Sun Giant EP.

The Little Ones are an indie pop band from L.A. and they make summery fun up-beat tunes.. like 'face the facts'... they've only got like two EPs out, but they are so damn catchy!

Love Is All - Swedish indie pop band... who just sound fun. 'spinning and scratching' is recommended which can be found on their Nine Times That Same Song album.

The Rosebuds, a two-piece outfit from North Carolina... think the indie pop version of The Subways and you have the rosebuds. definitely recommend 'we've had enough', but i'm having a bit of trouble finding this song.. but they've got about 3 albums out now.

i went to the hush sound's show on monday night.
they were bloody brilliant, and chris faller doesn't look so bad IRL. =]
i don't really consider vampire weekend "indie" they've gotten quite popular through MTV...(i still like them though)
qu'est-ce que c'est deguelasse?

AND VAMPIRE WEEKEND! Saw them in Central Park last month. They were excellent but it was pouring the whole time, haha.
I also saw The Hush Sound recently in concert, they were really good. :]
I might see Stars soon.
Does anyone listen to She & Him?
I also recommend Arthur & Yu. biggrin.gif

i'm a huge fan of MGMT, the last shadow puppets and feist. sadly, they're not heading down under anytime soon (at least not the last time i checked). you guys over in the UK/US have it good!!

Laura Marling was/is here for Splendour in the Grass and some side-shows..but i have a feeling they are sold out. She has a gorgeous voice..love her collaboration with Mystery Jets on 'young love'..

Feist is grrreat! 'Let It Die' is surely one of her better albums...in my opinion.

the last shadow puppets... miles kane and alex turner... i heard they will try to make it down under. Alex said his mate Dizzee Rascal (name drop..lol) thought the australian crowd were super. Al will try to make it down under either as The Last Shadow Puppets or Arctic Monkeys. either way, i'll be happy! =]

MGMT.. got lots of airplay on triple j. can't say i'm a huge fan, but the electro scene is growing by the synthesizers in australia... mega.

^ cool to hear about the shadow puppets! now i just have to keep an eye out smile.gif i was bummed because i'm missing out on the mgmt tour. the tickets sold out way too quickly since it's a smaller gig.

i'm also hooked on sufjan stevens and my brightest diamond (more recently). check more artists out at www.asthmatickitty.com if you're into the baroque pop/folk kinda sound.

edit: laura marling is excellent!

mgmt got upgraded to a bigger (but slightly crappier) venue: Festival Hall... but appaently that's all sold out too..

baroque pop/folk is great.. beirut is just love! his voice is so.... amazing.

Albert Hammond Jr? he's got a new ling of suits if anyone's interested.. pretty snazzy. AND he's going out with agyness deyn... i think they're the new 'rock star' couple.. kate and petey are old-school news now..
