I've heard that hula hooping is great for losing weight

Has this worked for anyone? I don't get home until late since I have work now so I'm trying to find something that I can do at home

^ Yes, the circular motions trim and reduce the waist line smile.gif (it doesn't mean you'll drop 10 lbs. though, you'll just get more defined). For guys, doing hula-hoop exercises is what would help tone our "v-lines" biggrin.gif.

Crunches only made the upper part of my abs tighter, but the bottom half of my stomach is still the same. How do I get rid of this? Also.. How do I get rid of the fat on my upper-thighs and make my calves smaller?

Thankss! <3

Cardio always help, but to trim your thighs and hips. So here's some leg workouts. Inner thigh workouts, hip abductions, hamstring curls, squats (which btw help curve your booty too ;)Stiff legged deadlifts, etc. Step ups are a good thing also, they are like a cardio+weight training exercise. And while you do these exercises, for you, you should do them in a 'circuit' training type of way. And what I mean by that is, go from one exercise to the other with a short rest time inbetween sets (i.e. 30sec-1min) and go back and forth and do about 3-4 circuits on these, mixed in with your other cardio/aerobic workouts. Hope this was a help sweatingbullets.gif

hey (: haha can i ask if swimming helps? i wanna tone my thighs and overall. but does it help tone the arms? cos i see that when swimmers warm up before their race, they shake their arms and i see them jiggle! xD LOL
and if big thighs are hereditary, can they still become smaller through exercise? thanks! what inner thigh workout can you do?

THANKS!

i'm really new myself so what i post is usually basic info that i'm also learning, so i hope you all dont mind. blush.gif im trying too learn from Jon (our thread starter, come back and help ok Jon!)

youre doing cardio, so that's great. definitely add in crunches, planks and hip flexers too. as for the arms, yes use weights but increase it if you dont feel the burn in the muscles. it should help as you persist over time and increase weights too. remember form and you have to feel it burn biggrin.gif

im sorry im so noob at this. any help would be appreciated from watcher and Jon too and anyone else biggrin.gif

hey! can i ask what are planks & hip flexers?
i wish i could think of some sweet impactful madeup phrase to insert here.lol<3

I would like workout / diet tips on toning up without losing weight; in fact toning up and gaining a few pounds.
Is that even possible?I know you can't spot reduce, but I'm 5'4 and 108 lbs (maybe a bit less now)... and I'm really quite flabby all over (especially in the thighs/butt and arms area... crazy.gif) , yet I don't want to lose the weight either. I'd like to be 110-115 lbs and fit =)

Wow, thanks for all the advice.

Just wondering though, i am tyring to tone up for the summer, not neccessarily lose WEIGHT, but getting more defined area in my arms and just overall line of my body. How would I go about that?

As well, I do want to lose a bit of fat in my inner thighs, calfs and inner arsm (like the butterfly wings under my armpit), would swimiing everyday for 40 minutes (freestyle and breasttroke) be a good way to achieve this? I used to run and powerwalk, but I ran like 2 miles in 30 minutes, and it was inconsistent the way I ran. Not sure how to run the "proper" way I guess.

so so...again..wall sit
instead of sitting there with your legs together...
spread them apart....you dont even have to be near a wall!...
the lower you can stand there the better...
(OMG i cant explain well..sry tears.gif )

oh. do frog jumps...go really low and jump really high.
you will feel the pain in a few jumps
endure the pain to burn off fat! smile.gif

yea, crunches suck at working your lower abs. what i do to strengthen my lower abs is do crunches and oblique twists while laying on an inclined bench. also, try laying on your back and lifting and holding your legs 2 inches off the ground for as long as you can. do this for several reps. both of those exercises will help tone those hard to reach lower abs!

as for your legs, i would really recommend running. running tones and slims the entire leg :]

there's a special machine for it at my gym...you sit with your legs semi-spread and then squeeze them together, pressing against pads which are attached to the weights...not sure what you could do to substitute that if you don't have one of those at your gym ><

cardio!! running or going on the eliptical for at least a half hour will get your heart rate up and slim/tone your whole body.
to specifically tone your abs, i suggest crunches on an inclined bench :] gyms always have special machines for working your abs, but i think simple crunches on an inclined bench work the best.

I'm new to this thread.
Just got a simple question to ask cos I'm really bothered by it.
What kinds of excercises should I do to get rid of REALLY thick thighs & calves?

ME TOO. ;___; Please help! I want to lose weight so bad but I'm scared that my legs and thighs would get bigger because that's just the way my legs are...? Or maybe I'm just doing the wrong exercises? Does Bikram Yoga make legs bigger? I really want skinny legs, or at least slimmer legs.

i've been changing the way i eat and now i'm eating healthier with exercise too happy.gif
but my main concern now is, how important is calorie counting? i mean, i do not know the calorie value of everything i eat [damn college food T_T] and i try using those calorie counters but they don't always match. i eat based on nutritional value, portion size and in moderation, is that enough or should i try counting calories as well? thank you!!

I go to the gym and run for 30 minutes 6 days a week. Then I walk alittle until the treadmill says I've burned around 400, which is about 3.6 miles total. I also do like, idk, 36 crunches on this pancake thing. Is there anything else I should do to get rid of fat?? I don't really want to get, overly muscular lol, just less fat T^T
I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you.
