1. I am going to try calorie counting. Different sites are giving me different numbers for how many calories I'm supposed to intake a day, and they say I have to add 500 to that to gain weight. Some say 1600 another says 2400. Is there a reliable site out there? Also, how exactly er, do I calorie count? Especially since I mostly eat from dining halls/restaurants that don't have their calories explicitly listed.
2. Can someone recommend me exactly what to eat in a day? I'm looking to gain at least 1-2 lb a week. I have a bad and unstable diet right now. Sometimes I skip lunch, or sometimes I eat tons of candy/junk past midnight, etc. so it's all
3. Any more suggestions? Right now, there isn't much exercise in my schedule, just 5-15 min walking to class, probably 40-50 min walking total a day? I'm biking next quarter. I'm also making it a goal to fit in working out @ the gym at least 2-3 times a week.
Thanks for the help

continue doing the cardio then I'd suggest adding an additional 300+ cals to your diet.
1. Start at 2500 and keep increasing by 200-500 a week until you notice weight gain.
To count the calories use this site http://caloriecount.about.com/ It will give you an approximation
of the cals you're taking in. It's a big database with most foods in there. You just have to use a
bit of common sense.
2. I'd eat whatever's in the caff. If you wanna be super healthy you need to cook your own food.
Lean meats grilled/boiled/baked. Lots of vegetables and some carbs. For your purposes
of just gaining weight i'd just eat all of the above as much as I can. Increasing frequency of eating
helps a lot. I personally eat 6 times a day. Eat each time till you're full then try to eat a little more.
If you can't force it, you wont gain weight.
3. You don't need more exercise than what you have unless you're trying to put on muscle mass.

im not going to try to sound like im wining about my body... i think its ok. but. summer is coming up, and well swim swuits need to flatter.
i have rather thick arms. when i flex them, it shows a lot of muscle which i hate, cause truthfully im not that strong.
how do i decrease this?
the legs... are very big, but then again i can work those of by treadmill cant i?
i also have another dilemma,... my eating habits are irregular. on school days i eat once at school and then dinner.
eating at school is rather small, say a hotdog and a drink then i have a rather large dinner.
i heard dancing looses weight? i also heard that burning hours on the treadmill DOESNT help that much. would someone clarify these hearsay facts?
advice would be much appreciated.
thankks ^^

The higher intensity one is usually better. So jogging. However, if you're
quite a bit overweight you might have to power walk first but yea. Try
jogging at a steady pace then slowly speeding up.

When is it wiser to slow down?
When I start gasping for breath?Feeling faint?Or when I feel as if I can't run anymore?
I have a habit of sometimes running too hard and gasping/feeling like vomiting after I finish running >_>"

Try to add another .5 Km or so every time you run until you reach your old distance.
That's pretty much what I did when I stopped running and started up again. Getting started again sucks and I try to avoid stopping as much as possible.

2. I have a high metabolism
Would doing cardio 2 times a week while weight lifting 3 times the same week make you lose mass? like i dont wanna lift for nothing. but i also wanna keep my legs in shape.

1. 75% of gaining mass is eating.
2. Doesn't really matter. Eat more.
Depends on how long/intense your cardio sessions are. If
they're short and sweet, it should be fine.

Are you talking about actual pain or soreness? if it's actual pain then it's probably a good sign.
If it's just soreness, it's just a build up of lactic acid.

My question is, I do long distance running (8~10miles) on a regular basis, about 3~6 times a week on my treadmill. But if not, I still go jogging at least 5~6 times a week for about 70minutes.
I've been doing this for a couple of years now, and I'm worried about my joints in my knees in the future >.<
I don't have any problems in my joints ie. my knees dont creak. and im 18
Are there any supplements or foods i should be eating more? (I'm lactose intolerant! but i still force myself to have some calcium everyday for my bones)
Or am I running too much/over excercising since I don't competitively run >.< it's just fun =)
*edit*
arghh and one more question.
I went jogging the other day for about 2 hours and the next day my back hurt heaps! =( it wasnt that painful, just sore. It's never happened before =( Does your back have muscles?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE =)

I've been on and off dieting since the end of last year and I've so far lost about 18kg(about 40 pounds)
And, my arms and belly and thighs look thinner but my calves still look big:(
maybe its just me thinking they look the same, i'm sure they've gone smaller
but they look really big to me still.. i think it's mainly cos of the muscle there...
whats the easiest and quickest way to lose that muscle in my calves?
also, is there a way to make my shoulders less wide? would losing weight make them more smaller? or am i doomed with wide shoulders forever? :'(
thank u~~~

You're still young so you don't have to worry about your joints unless there's pain.
However, you should limit the running to 3-4 times a week instead of 3-6. 5-6 is way
too much for the knees. Try things like biking on high resistance instead of running all
the time. Mix it up. Your body adapts when you do the same thing over and over.

Eat slightly more calories to account for the workouts in order to maintain.
As long as your diet is rather high in protein and not massively overpowered by
carbs you should be fine. Roughly 200-300 calories more depending on your workout.
From what I know, 8min abs only works abs. So if you want to tone arms and legs you have to do
diff exercises. For arms there are various areas to train, triceps, biceps, shoulders.
For Triceps you could do push ups or if you have weights you can do an overhead extension.
For biceps just do curls. For shoulders just do dumbell shoulder press of you can let the
push ups work that indirectly. For legs i'd suggest lunges and body weight squats.
All of these things you do in high reps roughly 15, and 3 sets.
For abs you can stick to the basic movements.

don't lift weights you won't get a lot of muscle ~ run, run, run, run 4 miles a day or more ~ just run ~
