I'm 142lb, 5'4 1/2, and F.
I've been working out at 24 hour fitness for like more than an hour for at least 5 days a week.
I just started working out, but i don't know which exercise stuff to start with.
I wanna lose all those fats on my thigh and stomach, or you can say that i just wanna tone them up without having those HUGE muscles popping out. >.<

Stick to cardio first to trim the fat. Make sure you eat lean protein with every meal, and most of your carbs should be primarily sourced through highly fibrous vegetables. Do not forget to take in fat. You need to consume fat to lose weight. Less carbs, more fat! Take your vitamins, and consume atleast 5g of fish oil every day. The only non-vegetable carb source that is allowed should be immediately after workout (20-30g).
In terms of caloric intake, count your current daily amount and subtract 500 from it. From there your prot/carb/fat should be around 50/25/25 or 60/20/20, or w/e. Key is to minimize the carbs and ensure atleast 20% of caloric intake from fats (olive oil, nuts, eggs, fish). The rest should be protein. Do this for a month, I'll guarantee that fat will melt off your body.
Once you lose the body fat, then you can start thinking about toning and sculpting your body.

I think my waist has gotten smaller as I've been exercising a lot more these days, but my weight increased by ~5lb (T__T) and my legs are bulgier than ever...

Also, my friend said I shouldn't eat before working out. How long before exercising should you eat?

Should i run for a long period of times? What kind of cardio should i start with? And i don't know which kinds of fibrous vegetables i should eat, lol.
Sorry about these questions

They're called back dimples. Nothing to worry about. They're actually a good thing.
If I were you, I wouldn't be trying to get rid of them. They're actually an attractive feature.
Eating before and after working out is a GOOD thing. You can eat anything up to an hour before
working out. If you want to eat a lot then eat 2 hours prior so it can digest mostly before training.

Really? My aunt says eating before working out is a bad thing.

Dimples of Venus is considered sexually attractive and girls want it. The end.
I'm not replying to your friend since your friend is stupid, anywhere between 1-4 hours it depends on your stomach. Though protein shakes can be taken within 20-30minutes.

Dude. 6 days a week with 1 day of rest? When are you going to rest your body so that it can grow? You're missing the mother of all exercises: deadlifts.
You don't need to do forearm curls, and you can squeeze in shrugs with your shoulder or back day. If I were you I'd do full body compounds 3xwk with equal rest days in between workouts.

I go running up to 5 or 6 times a week, but I feel like my legs have become bulkier.
What exercises help slim and lengthen leg muscles?

Holy mini cooper you're soo under weight. I think you should combine some of the exercises together on the same day, and compress your workouts. Maybe do 2 sets instead of 3 if you're gonna combine, lets say monday + tuesdays?

First, what's the healthiest oatmeal to eat? Is instant oatmeal ok? How much of a difference does it make if you get the flavored kind vs. the plain kind?
And right now I am a dedicated, hardworking college student (
Thanks!

i'm assuming this is just because I'm kinda unfit right now + the sudden burst of exercise just kinda killed me? Or something like that? xD
but now my legs are really, really, really sore and I can barely walk properly...any tips on becoming less sore? I stretched before/after I ran, too!
A lot of running injuries happen to people who stretch before running ~ just something I recall a coach once stating for track practice. I think do a little but don't over emphasize it pre-workout. Decreasing soreness ~ rest, make sure you have a good meal afterwards ~ it is vitally important you have protein afterwards - there are many many many many references about protein on this thread and on various health sites, nutrition sites.. so I expect you to do your homework. Along with pasta, simple carbs such as juice.gatorade.etc or a banana!
Sounds like you are "capable" of pushing yourself ~ you won't just die - you hit your "current" tolerance level as you noted. This develops much like your lungs and heart and muscles. It is your PIGHTING spirit.
Muay Thai is great, although I find it a little disturbing just how much I like to kick people. I can't wait until I'm allowed a real fight in the ring, bwahahaha!
Anywho, I have a new question but it may not be appropriate for this thread? Not sure. But I am trying to get rid of these umm (don't really know what to call them) they're like dimples only right above the butt region?
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REMOVE THE SEXY VENUS DIMPLES. DO NOT PASS GO. IMMEDIATELY RETURN BACK TO HOME!
I go running up to 5 or 6 times a week, but I feel like my legs have become bulkier.
What exercises help slim and lengthen leg muscles?
You feel has nothing to do with reality - buy a tape measure. Measure once every 2-3 weeks. Best combination for slim legs? lose more bodyfat ~ Do more elliptical work, row machine and non impact cardio
But i would like some helpful advices and suggestions here on soompi though (:
Well if you keep bringing up your aunt then it doesn't sound like you actually want advice or suggestions
I think my waist has gotten smaller as I've been exercising a lot more these days, but my weight increased by ~5lb (T__T) and my legs are bulgier than ever...
It gets very technical if you want a real answer and unless you buy me passion fruit iced tea *half sugar* and also spoil me with all you can eat bbq I refuse to at this point and time elaborate tho I am sure others may be of help.
Suffice it to say ~
One can primarily focus on losing fat (which means protecting as much muscle as possible) to avoid skinny-fat syndrome and getting sicker as a result ( though you'll see a lot of soompiers are great examples!!! ) also a lot of chinese girls and korean girls.. occasionally theres a couple that learn but yah.. asian people are still learning how to eat properly to maximize genetic potential. So... whatever!!!
Congratulations about "thinking" your waist as gotten smaller ~ now if you can actually bring up a viable example like an extra 1/2 inch or inch of room in your jeans waist line or a tape measurement
Weight fluctuates by 5-10lbs a day based on food water and rest. Also ~ your first 3 months of hard work and exercise can see the most biggest # changes ~ then the rest is fine tuning and detail work! Don't be scurred ~ eat right, work hard, and pight-o pight-o
I don't believe nada about your legs without pictures ~ too many people are deluded by their own self-perception. ;D avoid this at all costs.
I go running up to 5 or 6 times a week, but I feel like my legs have become bulkier.
What exercises help slim and lengthen leg muscles?
No pictures or measurements over 3 months = BLAH!!!!!

Steel cut ~ uh fiber content, sugar content etc.. BUTTTTTTTT ~ starting simple and forming good habits is #1 then adjusting your habits to be more effective is #2.
You aren't eating enough protein, add another egg or make sure to include whole wheat toaste and 1/2 a cup 1 cup of oatmeal! The added protein and fiber will keep you satiated longer in the morning and throughout the day ~ Keep in mind that breakfast sets the tone for a persons entire day of eating. There is more to it but you are better off reading articles and findings on your own ~ feel free to pm me for links if you really want to read more on nutrition.
Easily take to school ~ I assume you drive and have a car therefore have room to fit a small cooler to pack drinks, a shake, and sandwiches and small tupperware. Boiled eggs, grilled chicken breast, tunafish sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches ( whole wheat bread ), peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ( as long as you exercise and eat a clean diet the jelly is fine ~ unless your trying to get skinnier but I don't think you have that problem - your metabolism seems to be working A-Okay and as long as you keep it fed and don't turn into a sloth your good to go (exercise is importante of course as maintenance!!)
Oh and other sandwiches like a roast beef sandwich etc just make like batches of sandwiches. Generally speaking they should last at least 3 days after prep as long as you seal them up and keep them cool ( see refrigerator for more details ) I like to toss in cucumbers into lots of my sandwiches and other things ~ you can be creative with the veggies of course ;) Avoid the prepackaged avg supermarket meats and only deli meats for sandwiches if you have any fat issues ~ otherwise enjoy away! ;D
TADA! cliff bars.. uhhhhhhhh ...... uhhh.... if your appearance is getting worse it could be worse but for the same price you could have a few boiled eggs.. or 2-3 cans of tuna... etc
