Is it better to jog at one pace or run fast(er) but take two or three 10 second walking breaks?

I need eating tips.
I usually teach Taekwondo from around 4-7, and right after that, I train. I don't get home til around 9. Most of the time, I either skip dinner or eat late. I sometimes eat a small bowl of soup or yogurt and fruits. I don't have that much time to eat, but is there a healthier alternative? Is eating full before 4 better or snacking at 9 or 10?

I think a good way to try and figure out what you should do is by writing out your schedule for us. smile.gif

Example:
7am breakfast
8am work
12pm lunch
3pm snack
5pm-6pm workout
6pm dinner

etcetc.. and maybe if you need to eat late, instead of fruits and yogurt just eat some chicken and veggies. Meal planning goes a long way as well. When you write out your schedule you can see where you can fit in time to precook meals and what not.

Wake up an hour early every morning and go for a 30 minute jog, this will also give you an energy boost for the day's work. To cure the hunger try a lean protein shake, this can keep you filled up and skip a meal. Then some time after work do some weight lifting anything is better than nothing. Like everyday other day work your big muscles, which will release hormones that will burn fat.

Monday,Wednesday,Friday,Sunday (since your losing weight, use a weight that's in between your minimum and maximum level-easy to lift):
3 sets of 12-15 (Shoulder press)
3 sets of 12-15(Bench Press)
3 Sets of 20 Pushups
3 sets of 20 Squats

Tuesday,Thursday,Satruday:

You can either just rest or do more cardio, Swimming is also very good cardio and fun.

AHh that sounds easy enough! thank you!! i appreciate it
imma cut down my food intake well ...atleast the things i eat i heard its better to eat
alot of portions but healthy ,good and small biggrin.gif

How can I just lose fat w/o building much muscle?

I have quite alot of fat. lol im scared my legs will look manly and bulky / muscly. I dont want any of that!! I just want it to look sexy and slim =/

I do the elliptical trainer for 45 min 3-4 times a week and i also do the weights machines..... should I do the lowest weight setting and do high reps?

Cardio exercises are best, like running
Uh, you won't get "bulky" legs. That takes years of training to build up a lot of muscle. You can't lose fat without gaining some muscle anyways.
Best way to slim down legs is running and walking, hands down.

protein shakes have a couple hundred calories so they can be used as meal replacements given you don't lift weights or workout to build muscle. however another alternative is to eat smaller portions at meals because if you end up eating a lot during dinner or any other meal in order to make up for the shakes, your plans are ruined. just remember to eat less but have at least 3 meals and burn more calories than you take in (exercise).

Hello!

Do you have any exercise tips that'll make your hips smaller? Every time I buy new pants, I always have to get the sizes that fits my hips and by this, the pants would be big on my waist, in other words, my hips is way out of poportion.

Thank you!

what exercises do you recommend?

cardio exercises such as step aerobics, running, walking, swimming, jump rope or any sport burns a lot of calories.

There's no way you can switch your 7:30-8:30 schedule to 2-4? That way you can just eat between 7:30 and 8:30. Orrr maybe from that time 2-4 where you don't have anything to do, you can pack your dinner before you go to teach tkd and you can eat it before training or after? Just a suggestion. smile.gif

Hi Jon, I was wondering if you have any advice for me. Uhmm, so stats ^^;

I turn 18 on Sat.
4' 11.5" I'm short ><
Right now I weigh 106 lbs.
And all my weight gain is in my hips and thighs.
I've taken Taekwondo for the past 7-8 yrs, and gymnastics for two years among those. At one point I slowed down DRAMATICALLY. And I went from 98 lbs to 118 in two months or so. >< For how short I am, it wasn't very good. Since then I went back down to 108. I was wondering if there's anyway for me to get back to 98 lbs, and to slim down my legs and tone the rest of me. I feel like I'm unbalanced.. cause my waist is small but my thighs and hips are noot. I've read some posts that say running and stuff, and I started doing 2 mi a day two days ago. Uhm, since its summer my life looks like this:

8:00 wake up and eat a tangerine.
8:45 speed walk a mile then stretch and do crunches.
9:20 break for like an hour and drink a soy protein shake
10:20 jog another mile at 4-5.5 mph
10:35 stretch and a little conditioning w.o weights
11:00 shower and pick my sister up from summer school
Nothing until 3:20 at which time I go to work (as a secretary at Taekwondo)
Then I'm practically sedentary until 7:00 when I have class two days of the week.
Home at 8:45 ish, eat dinner and watch tv. sleep at around 11 or 12.

I kind of lost my love for Taekwondo, so I haven't been going to class. So any advice or suggestions you might have will be SUPER appreciated >< Sorry my post was kinda longish.

oh EDIT: Would it be healthy for me to go lower than 98 lbs? Or is that not good?

is this right?
"3 sets 6-10 reps for bulking up" with heavier weights"
"3 sets 10-12 reps for toning" with lighter weights"

and what should you do if you feel a little pain on your front lower leg [right on top of the ankle xept on the front]
whenever you put pressure on it or you just started running?

Wow! Finally, the right person to go to! ^^

Well, my brother and I have been trying to lose weight. Three years ago, I was super skinny. Now, my thighs have gotten thicker and so has my waist. But I don't have that fat belly or anything. I don't understand why, because well...I just don't -__- But I'd like to lost weight around the waist first, then, the legs. I'm not fat or anything, but I must do something to prevent that... Can you help me? There are no gyms close by or anything...and it's hot and humid where we live. We live in a small, small town... -___-

Thanks.

How old are you? It could be something natural rather than because you gained weight. In any case, you can try doing some home exercises. There are tons of dvds you can do at home like the 30 day shred. All you need are weights and essentially about 25 minutes of your time.

for bulking up i'd do 3 sets of 6-9 max weight. Toning 3 sets of 10-15 medium weight.

I suggest getting that checked if it doesn't go away.

ive been a bit overweight for about 5 yrs im 5ft and about 135lbs... im now trying to do some sit ups to get rid of the belly fat, but the thing is once i get down i cant get back up, so im wondering if I do the sit ups often enough, then eventually i could actually sit back up right? (as it build muscles so it strenghthens the tummy)

oh yes, while doing sit ups im using something or someone to hold my feet so i could pull myself up. but since im relying something to pull me up will it still burn the fat on the belly?

you'd definitely be losing fat regardless of the muscle milk. although muscle milk contains some calories, its not enough to shift your weight even after running. so yeah, you can continue taking muscle milk as long as you keep up the cardio. however, taking a break from muscle milk while doing cardio isnt a bad idea either.

not sure who you were directing the post to but the best thing is to run and do cardio exercises. doing yoga and pilates will also help tone your legs if youre unsure if running will build leg muscle.

regardless of being overweight or not, doing a full situp without the aid of anyone or anything holding your legs is hard for the average person. if you continue to do situps, then yes you will get better and improve your form however running and cardio is the way to lose belly fat. situps and crunches will just add muscle and your abs will be hidden under the fat.
