i have broad shoulders from swimming and ect. and i would like to know how to lose the extra muscle
im sure i can just be a couch potato for the next ten months and maybe all my muscle will melt away...
but im pretty sure if i just sit around i'll end up gaining a lot of fat while im at it.
I'm not sure what kind of shoulders qualify as being broad but I'm gonna guess its the combination of bone structure, deltoids, and trapezius that give off that effect. What other areas of muscle do you want to reduce?
I questioned if you have them confused because it is not good to lose muscle (it will lower your metabolism, make you weaker), the extra fat is what you want to get rid of. Now if you have a low body fat % and you still think you are too muscular, then just significantly reduce your calories and your body will be forced into using your muscle for energy.
Here's a quote from my notes in class:
"As glycogen stores dwindle (after about 24 hours of starvation), the body begins to break down its protein (muscle and lean tissue) to amino acids to synthesize glucose needed for brain and nervous system energy."
Well actually doing a lot of muscle will make her lose muscle. Body builders don't like to do too much cardio because they're afraid they'll lose their muscle, but then the question of how much is too much arises

I have a lot of questions on how to get fit... hopefully you're still answering!
Ok so first of all, I'm
18 y/o
Male
137lbs
5 foot 8 for height
No diet.. - I somehow don't gain or lose anyweight though without exercise. I've been 137lbs since grade 11
Now the thing is, I have a belly and my face is kinda chubby, I was wondering how to lose that. I'm not looking to be buff or anything, just skinnier.
I heard jogging outside really helped, but I also heard that it makes your legs huge. Is that true? *doesn't want huge legs*
Any tips and advice on how to get started on getting well skinnier would be awesome!
Thanks for your time!

Sit ups and crunches are good exercise to rid of belly. But you'd probably want to do sets of 50 or 75 in terms of crunches in order for it to be effective. Sit ups are great, I think 4 sets of 20/25 would be good (daily).
You can also try leg raises, they work pretty well too.
I'm not sure how to lose the fat on your face, I heard there's a foil mask you can wear or some sort of roller.
But it is in my belief that face shape doesn't change a lot of except during dramatic weight loss. sorries =X

I've been trying to keep a steady schedule, but school's been really annoying with so many teachers missing and classes that we need to catch up.
Plus we get out of school at 5 here. There's really nothing much we can do.
But thanks for replying ^^
It's helpful

Noooooo. Sit ups and crunches are not good exercises to get rid of belly (fat).

Slightly lower calorie intake, lift heavy weights and some cardio exerise.
We can't spot reduce, situps and crunches will work your ab muscles but it is definitely not enough to burn fat.

Second question. If I store a lot of fat in my face and lose weight, and lost the weight from my face, but then I eat voraciously and gain weight back on my face again, will I be able to lose the fat in my face again? Do we lose and gain fat the same place over and over again or can the places that store and burn the fat change over time?

i have a question about running.
i'm a girl at 5'3" weigh 120lbs.
i've been using the ellipticals for 1.5 months now and have been using it 3-4 times a week. While on the ellipticals, I set resistance to 3 or 4 and incline at 8. I keep my heartrate up in the 160s and according to the machine, i'm burnign on average 9.5calories/min.
The question is, lately, my knee seems to be kinda irritated. Sometimes when I walk, if feels not as swift and it feels a bit swollen. I'm concerned about this and nto sure what I should do. I want to continue working out, but is this a good idea? Am I "running" wrong?

female
15 years old
about 120 lbs
5'5"
Some probably might have asked this question before, but I didn't look through all the pages..
Anyway, I was wondering what to do if my calve muscles (fat?) are really big. My friends all tell me I have to do...like nothing to make them go away, but i still want to work out to get rid of stomach and thigh fat. I usually run like 20-30 min w/walking in between, but lately I havent been doing it, because I was afraid my calve muscles would get bigger.
Is this gonna help like get rid of big calves, cause I'm so confused. I'm not even sure if its fat or muscle. I'm pretty sure its muscle since it isn't like...blubbery, but my dad keeps saying its fat.

Yes, in the end it all comes down to calories in, vs calories out. If people that are low-carbing are eating 3000 calories but their total energy used is just 1800 calories, they will definitely gain weight, that's just how the law is. Calories out include the extra exercise you do plus the metabolism of your body by just living. And yes you would lose weight if you slightly lowered your calorie intake plus some regular exercise. Carbs are not "fattening", but yes they can make you fat but so can anything else if you eat too much. The Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range for carbs are 45-65% of your calories. Diabetics on low end, athletes on high end, others in the middle range. Be careful not to restrict too much because strict dieting, fasting will increase the level of this enzyme in your body called lipoprotein lipase and it promotes the storing of fat for when you do eat a lot. The body loves staying fat ! Oh and also if not enough glucose (from carbs, and protein after gluconeogenesis) is present, your body will break down your muscle for energy and that is definitely not good.
Genetics determine where we store and burn fat, so I'm gonna go with no the places won't change. You can always lose and gain weight however many times you wish
I know you came to ask Nojeel but I just wanted to answer too lol...trying to make use of what I learn in class
