wow this thread is way too long to keep up....
Im really clueless about having a good diet, calories, etc etc.
I'd like to eat more healthy but I just dont know how. i know it includes grains and fiber and fruits and less junk food, but where could i learn more about this kind of stuff?

I'm 22, 5'4 and i weight about 100 give or take 2-3 pounds. I know people always think that im lucky, but ive never done any exercises or played sports as a kid and i have a flabby lower stomach. I do sit ups but i cant do crunches. I just cant go all the way up. What can i do to get rid of that? I have flabby thighs and kind of bigger calves than what ppl view as sexy so what can i do to make them look more toned and smaller. is there anything to do, or is it that these people have good genetics? i thought losing weight would help, but boy was i wrong....

check out the 8min abs workout vid thread in this forum (health beauty fashion). watch the video, the guy in there does a great demonstration of how to do crunches and what not. it's actually a good workout you can follow too, i would recommend it. combine that with some jogging (doesnt have to be daily) and u should start seeing a more toned abs, less flabs. instead of losing weight, i think u can use a bit more muscle. work out at a gym and also jog some, it'll tone your legs (in my opinion, toned legs are much more attractive than flabby legs, so dont be afraid to add a bit of muscle to it). also.. im not sure how self conscious u are to your weight but by adding the muscles u may add a few pounds as well, it should be ok though considering u are kind of light for your height.

Hi, I'm 5'3 and way around 98~100 lbs. so I'm a pretty skinny girl except that I have realllly huge calves T.T It doesn't look proportional to the rest of my body.. I don't know whyy they are soo big. It looks like muscle but the weird thing is that I CAN't even run fast at all. I suckkkkk at running. I was always last in my P.E. class.. but my calves look soo muscular T.T but my thighs are skinny. Well I want to work out because I have a little belly fat too that I want to get rid of.. and everyone tells me to jog but then I know my calves are gonna get even bigger! when i took p.e. during summer school and ran every single day- believe it or not my calves got even bigger and it looked nasssssssty. ahhh. What do I do?

Intensive Cardio. Run run run. Fat tissue is approximately 20% less dense than muscle, so it takes up 20% more space. So if you had muscle instead of fat on your legs at your current weight your legs would look 20% skinnier.

Juice gives a lot of nutrients so, I'm assuming it's healthy regardless of calorie intake. Not all juices though. --;;

:x I have a couple questions:
-Have you healed yet? (Hope you're better)
-How much do you get paid for your services? XD
-Do you still have time to give me advice on how to get my ideal body weight (and keep it) if I sent you a pm with a picture of my current state and the state I want to be in?

& just a general correct me if I'm wrong:
-By doing cardio everyday, my calves will get slimmer not bulkier?

I worked all this summer and work consists of standing from 8-4pm everyday. My calves have never been bigger. T_T;

I myself stay away from juice. They usually have tons of sugar in them and are not that healthy for a Vitamin fix you can find somewhere else like an actual fruit or vegetable.

Tahitian Noni is where it's at.

Really expensive though. I have tons of it at my place lol...

Hello! I hope you can help me! biggrin.gif

Okay, I am a female. I'm 5'5" and weigh 142 lbs. I work out about 3 - 4 days a week for at least 1 hour. I go to the gym and jog for one mile. After that, I would get on one of the trendmill that helps with your thighs, calves, and butt for about 10 - 20 minutes. After that, I would go do some abs work for just five minutes (it hurts alot!). So, I was wondering if this is a good excerise sch.? Also, I seems to be gaining more wait then losing it. I gained 2lbs. My friend told me it's muscle, but I don't want to gain muscle. I want to lose fat. AND i think you said that you need muscles in order to lose fat? But, how long will it take before losing fat?

My diet...not so good. I eat about two times a day, and both is medium size portion. I do drink about two to three bottles of day. SO, I was wondering what is a good diet sch.? I really hope that you can help me make one for myself, or else I won't ever lose weight....

So..morning, can I eat a serving of cheerios cereles?
Lunch...a small sandwhich with ham and wheat bread. No maynes. or anything else.
Excerise around 5 or 6pm.
Dinner, small portion of meat with veges and with white rice.

So, is this alright? Anything I need to add or change?

I was reading through some of the comments, adn I was wondering...what is a good thing to eat before going to excerise? I know it was mention that some fast digesting food...but what do you recommand?

thanks!

hey thanks for all this info but i have a question as well..

i usually just power walk/run for a work out but i also want to start incorporating yoga. i was just wondering if it would be better to do yoga before my run or after? because when you do yoga your all stretched out and relaxed and i'm afraid that by running after it'll shock my muslces and make it tight again..because i want to elongate my muscles, like just look more lean and long through yoga. any suggestions?

is there a way to make my calf's smaller? they're abnormally big..after i run its always really tight...well that happens of course, but i feel like when i walk/run it just gets bigger and bigger. is that the reason why it gets big? any suggestions on toning DOWN my calfs? thanks!

I really want to hit 114lbs by the end of my cross country season-- which is october 12.
when i started xc, i weighed at least 125lbs.
i still eat the same, maybe just a little more, because i need the energy.
also, i eat very healthy.
running in xc makes me run at least minimum 4miles a day...
before i joined this sport, i received no exercise for myself at all.
all ive lost is about 3 lbs, can someone explain to me ?
if your going to say ive gained "muscle", shouldnt the fat be burned first?

the more weight you lose, the less energy you use up when you're running. because... you're carrying less weight on you. if you eat the same, it means that you actually are approaching a point where your calorie intake is closer to the energy you used up. as a result, you dont lose as much weight as you used to. to burn up more energy, you change your routine, or increase the length of your current routine, or change your nutrition plan. usually, the best is a combination of all 3. but the calculations might as well be rocket science... that's what it feels like to me at least. i get a trainer whenever i need to adjust.

btw... an more important question i should have asked first is how long as it been since you started? heh...

[edit] now that i think about it.. i dont even know your nutrition plan or much about your physique or your workout plan... i cant really say anythin... so what i posted above... keep in mind as you progress through your training tongue.gif

i started about a month and a half ago and ive only lost 3 lbs sad.gif

I eat breakfast, what i have is special K.
Then throughout the day, i would eat a fruit or something (because im in school, and i dont wanna eat all the fatty food they have in the cafeteria).
I go to practice, then after practice, i eat another fruit, maybe eat pretzels, then when i get home, i eat my full meal (usually has rice)

1/2 a pound a week's not bad. if you think about it, to burn 1 pound of fat, you gotta burn 3500 calories. that's a little less than 2 whole days of eating! plus, if you are indeed gaining muscle mass, know that muscle weights more than fat, and making the calculation would require some assistance from a professional or buy your own equipment to track your progress.

i guess what i can suggest would be to cut down on the pretzels and replace it with something else, like veggie snacks, or a serving of nuts, like unsalted peanuts. fish, lean meats and veggies are also good for dinners. if you need your rice fix, better to do it in the mornings and burn all of it throughout the day. and btw... there are some veggies out there that are considered to have negative calories. since your body will use up energy to digest those foods, they will end up expending more energy than those veggies provide. if it's hunger you need to fill, those veggies should fit right in AND they'll provide you nutrients to boot. not a bad deal IMO. hehe

consider doing some weight training if you havent, to increase muscle mass, and not to forget about getting a good supply of nutrients (vitamins, proteins, etc) to support healthy muscle growth. i dont know if it will affect you in the short run, but it'll set you up with a good base in the long term.

other than that, i think you should just run more, or swim, or increase/change your workout routine so you expend more energy throughout the day. in the bigger picture, it comes down to doing the math right. eating less is an unhealthy option, but under controlled situations and guidance from a professional, you can cut out foods here and there for short term purposes. if you can afford a trainer, i'd suggest you find one and get help for about a month.

[edit] do wind sprints if you can. running in bursts will burn more calories overall than running consistently.

Common misconception. How can a pound of muscle weigh more than a pound of fat? You mean muscle is more dense (roughly 20%) than fat.

I assume people often say muscle weighs more than fat because they're comparing the same volume of the two...
Both ways are right really..

sitting in the tub diet thingy? whatttt????

i think 100 for 5'4 is too light, not a very healthy weight. if you insist in going down in weight i think 110 would be great and definitely no less than 105 unless u want to be one of those skinny anorexic asian girls. if u want to cut down the fat u must first start with exercises that brings up your heart rate: running and swimming.

question:
most ppl say not to eat alot of rice or bread for lunch and for dinner.
well cause usually i would have a sandwich for lunch, besides from salad.
Like how do i substitute my bread & rice if im not allowed to eat them but only for a little bit?
cause it seems like everything i eat either has rice or bread..
