ive signed my SIR to irvine and paid $120 already. Literally half my friends are going to irvine, but im choosing to cancel my SIR and go to a community college. The reason for this is so that ill have a higher chance of transferring out to a better UC,...well, my main goal is USC. But yea, all my friends keep telling me "what if you can't transfer out??!!" and pessimistic crap like that! I've already thought about all the bad outcomes but i still think ill do better at a community college. Im just scared cuz ill be all alone. What are your thoughts on this? im just curious.

There's a very low chance of transfering to a UC from a Community College.

I wouldn't want to take a chance if I were you .___."

^ There's an even lower chance to transfer from UC to UC though.

Honestly, I'd stick with Irvine. But I have my reasons. What are some of your reasons? Just to let you know, just because it is community college does not mean it's any easier. You still have to work. If I were you, I'd list out all the pros and cons of both situations, and weigh them on how important they are.

I feel that as long as you stay motivated, transfering is not hard at all. Many people choose to go to a community college first and then transfer out. The transfer rate is not low at all, well to me neways. You would probably at least be able to get back into UCI when you reapply. Do what you feel is best for you because your're not gonna do well being a school you don't even want to go to. Go to a community college and hey, maybe in a few semesters time you'll end up in a much better college! Good Luck!

Are you kidding me? Isn't the purpose of CCs for you to transfer to UC's & CSU's?

What in the world are you talking about? There are tons of programs readily available to CC students who want to transfer out. TONS. It's easier for CC students to transfer into a better UC than it is for straight out of HS students. They give CC transfers priority.

If you want to attend a higher ranked U.C, then your best choice is to choose City College. You can attend it for two years and then transfer out. If you decide to attend UCI, your chances of transferring to another U.C are significantly lower. U.Cs tends to give priority to those at city colleges.

But just be reminded that anything can happen in the two years before you can transfer out. City College is your last resort to attend a better college. You are also taking a risk of potentially ending up at an even less prestigious school.

If you do decide to go to City College, you can save thousands of dollars for the two years. Also, I am not sure where you live, but at CCSF they offer great programs for students who want to transfer. I believe that some U.Cs also offer guaranteed programs. It’s a contract between the student and the school, in which the student will be accepted to that U.C if the student meets the requirements.

I personally think that UCI is a great school, but if you really want to go somewhere else, then I think you should take the chance and go to City College.

This is exactly what I`m doing right now. I was accepted to UCI last semester but decided to go to a community college instead. It`s a LOT cheaper, and the community college that i`m going to has one of the best transfer programs in CA. Just make sure the IGETC becomes your best friend. It`s a lot easier to transfer from a CC to a UC than going to a UC straight out of HS, and you also get priority.

One example. I was talking to a UCI representative at my school's college fair, & he told me that all i needed was a 3.0 and a few extracurricular activities if i wanted to go to UCI.

To be honest and all, I would take the four full years of college experiance D= UCI is a great school. If you go into any UC the 3rd year, it wouldn't "feel" as right.

Can't you transer to another UC while you're at UCI? Someone I know is planning to transfer to USC from UCSD...

if youre in a cc remember to study and recieve good grades. also another important thing is to take at least 15 units a semester. dont have the mentality to take 9 units and take 6 units in the summer, cuz you'll get lazy!!! im speaking the truth cuz i know a lot of people who graduated in my year 04 and are still in cypress/fullerton college or another cc.

Going to a CC is cheap and saves money especially if you're paying your own college tuition without the help of your good-for-nothing (jk) parents. If you know what you're going to major in, you can get the useless credits out of the way in CC. Then when you transfer to UC, you can take classes that you need for your major(s).

maybe you can transfer to IVC. which is irvine valley college. its fairly new though. but.. its in irvine (maybe they have priority for students who want to attend UCI? im just guessing though). and from what i heard, its not hard to transfer into a UC school at all. =\ you save money too. basically, you can take two years of CC and two years + of UC, and youll still be fine career-wise, etc.

CSU stands for california state university.

if you really want to go to a better UC, than CC would be a good choice because it's so much easier to transfer and save lots of money. good luck! =]

which community colleges have the best transfer programs in CA? and the example you're talking about with the irvine rep.. 3.0 and extracurric. activites are the minimum requirements for students at CC's planning to transfer to UC?
