when using a ceramic hair straightener, does brand name matter?

a CHI is wayyyy too expensive. i know it's 'worth the price' but if you don't want to spend all that $$$ on a straightener, then does brand really matter? as long as it's ionic/ ceramic and works well right?

ok..my friend got his wax and everything. he said that his hair was grown and all that so he went to the salon and got it layered and what not sleep.gif when the guy doing his hair finished, he used his wax and it looked "beast" but the next day, he tried to do his hair and it turned out HORRIBLE!!!! is there a certain way to do your hair??? or do you guys have a tutorial that might help him out a bit??? sweatingbullets.gif thanks ahead of time

Stylists have those magical fingers lol, one of the best things he couldve done was watch carefully how the stylist did his hair, or even ask for a few tips on styling since each style is sort of unique for everyones head shape. There are a few vids on youtube, I dont know the exact link but I remember seeing some a few pages back. He can also try watching some of the vids from the actual gatsby site, but usually, it isn't as easy as it looks sweatingbullets.gif it does take practice, good luck

lolx.. how do u use a straightener?.. seriously. and how long should your hair be, i dont think mine is long enough...

i believe you start at the root of your hair, and slide your hair through the straightner like this http://youtube.com/watch?v=bfS6lSDfDTk without the whining
if your hair isnt even long enough to be slid through a straightner, then it's probably still too short

Just cause a straightner has a brand name doesnt always guarantee the best results, I suggest looking around for reviews of different straightners and figure out which good ones you find will fit your budget

^yeah i always do that my hair is like crazy thick not easy to do anyhting with it XD
i use thinning scissors and the razor(whichi think is the shears) you have to be careful with it tho.. if you go too crazy with it. you'll lose a lot of hair and not notice =) but practice makes perfect i guess

haha
good luck =)

What do I do to get my hair like this? Is that Gatsby product the only way to get this type of hair?

Any type of wax or clay will get you that style.

i use thinning shears every oncenawhile XD
i'd say it requires some skill~ but if u're experienced with scissors then no problem XD
the thing is...... i learned how to thin hair the traditional way..... using regular hair cutting shears =P so thinning shears to me is no problem
i too have super thick hair =P
just practice and im sure u'll get the hang of it after a while!
btw u want to take multiple strokes depending on how thin and how short u want it to be~

i wash my hair in the morning usually~
reason why i do that is because i like to start out with a nice clean canvas before styling and whatnot XD
but thats just me =P

I have a mohawk/elvis style... some of my friends say it's cute others think I look childish
(i'll upload if I'm not lazy)
(edit) guess I'm not that lazy

that doesn't look right. i think when your friends said it looked childish, they meant that it looks like your hair was done by a child. perhaps you should get your hair layered, the tops a bit long to be doing a fauxhawk.
also, your hair looks gelled. you should use hairspray. hold up your hair, position the can a foot away from where you're directing it and spray and keep holding your hair until it's dry. this way, it looks less tentacle-y. HAHAHA. sorry :o
spider hong, spider hong. does whatever a spider hong does. can he swing?
from a web? no he can't; he's a chinese guy. look ooout! he's a spider hong. hongalong

Try to get a matte type product (wax/clay) unless you want the shine

I'm having some trouble. =/ My hair is pretty dry so I've kept it almost the same style as the pics Uchiha posted above...but without the color since that will undoubtedly make me hair drier. I want a new slightly longer hairstyle but I want it to still look natural so not spikey or too much hair products.

I've always been fond of hairstyles like this. It's pretty mucn product-free and natural looking. But do you think it's impossible for me since my hair is dry and won't stay down? Then what kind of hairstyle do you think will work best with my kind of hair? Do you think this will work?

lol maybe u should post a pic of urself O_O
then it would be better and easier for people to give u advice......
but from what i read so far........ u have dry hair..... and it sticks up.... probably naturally after u shower.....
after showering..... maybe u can blowdry ur hair down....... or push ur hair down till it dries that way..... or u can just put a hoodie on.....
after doing so..... im sure ur hair would be down..... as for being too dry.... i dont think thats all too bad..... i mean.... oily hair is the hardest to handle... cuz that kind of hair is always clumpy-ish... dirty looking.... or just too flat...
anyways...... as i was saying...... if u tried doing that[making ur hair down and whatnot]...... maybe u can put some wax into your hair and style it nicely~
hmm... and it also seems to me that ur hair is quite short too huh? i mean if it sticks up and all that jazz~
just let it grow for a while.... the weight of the hair will pull it down~
as for me...... i think dry hair is ideal for voluminous hair~
cuz making voluminous hair style with oily hair... is no good.... X_x;; hard to do... or wont come out as nicely~

[edit]
btw........ if its "too dry" according to you......
try using conditioner......
conditioner is used after shampoo obviously LOL fyi~
anywho..... ya~ conditioner will help it get moisturized~ and im sure it would it ur hair go down too~
makes it softer and whatnot~

Lol. I've tried so many conditioners. I've even tried to chinese herb mixture thing from China. Needless to say it didn't work. It's probably genetics. My dad also has hair like straw. Even if I can get it to lay low, my hair would have very little shine. But the nice thing about my hair is that it grows very fast so I won't have to wait as long for it to grow out. I'll try the hairblower thing. Would a hair straightener be of any use? I've been considering of buying one. Asking to borrow my mom's straightener will be an awkward conversation to be had, lol.
