Two Years Of American Studies... Is it necessary?

So...I took Global Studies my freshmen year. Then I took American Studies 10 and AP Government. I repeated a lot of stuff I learned and it was basically a waste of time for my first semester in AS 10. Do I have to take American Studies 11 or AP US history for my junior year? I really just want to take AP European History, then I'll take AP Econ in my senior year. I just don't want to learn another year of American History...
