it's annoying.. finding books with great beginnings .. but horrible endings..
great endings.. perfect beginning.. middle part is horrible.. etc etc

I've come to realize that in my opinion.. the beginning is the most important for because it doesn't put people to sleep.. grr

what about you?

Hmm.. The beginning doesn't really matter that much for me, if it picks up the pace after a few chapters.

I'd have to say the middle is most important for me.

i'd say the middle/climax is the most important because it's the part where i decide whether to keep going or to just drop the book. sometimes book have really tedious beginnings but with a great climax/ending so if i find a book with a boring introduction i try to keep going to see where it leads. if the middle continues to be boring i'll just stop reading but if if picks up, i'll continue.

I would say the end. There are too many books out there with ridiculously boring middle parts. So boring that you don't even realize you've hit a climax.

The ending. Even if the beginning or middle sucked, the ending should be powerful/satisfying enough to make up for it. The ending is what I remember best, so even if the middle sucked, well, that's okay, so long as the ending closed things up nicely.

Why, the spine, of course... without it, all the pages would fall out.
(sorry for the lame jokes... I'm in a pretty retarded mood. Hahaha.)

The middle, definitely.
I can't recall the amount of times I've gotten interested in a book by the first few chapters... only to be let down by what proceeds it.
I usually just put the book down by that point.

...
OK. I am so sorry, but I feel compelled to do this. My inner 12-year old is screaming at me.

middle and end are most important
more so the ending I think
the beginning needs to draw the reader in, but what we usually like about a book is it's contents and how it resolves

As Homer once said, "Each letter is as important as the one that preceded it. Maybe more important! No, as important."

I.E., I think to have a good story, you need to have a good beginning, middle, and end.
When I start a book, the beginning has to be interesting to make me want to see what's gonna happen.
Then the middle has to also be interesting, otherwise I'd skip to the end and just get closure.
If the middle was good, and the ending is as well, then that's a good book right there.

Beginning - to capture my attention to keep on reading
Middle - to sustain my interest
Ending - to gain satisfaction?

i am more into middle/ending...
actually ending though...i hate it when the ending is just not good enough to make me satisfied and remember it...
therefore i prefer good and memorable ending biggrin.gif
