How do I reboot my computer?

I've had this virus on my computer for a while, but I just lived with it because I didn't want to reboot my computer. I have a lot of music, dramas, movies, etc. on my computer, so I didn't want to delete those. But now I think I'll have to reboot because my computer has been acting really weird.

I think I am going to buy an external hard drive to transfer all my files. Would I be able to transfer programs, like Photoshop and Word, too?

Do I need some kind of CD to reformat? I don't think I have one, or I just can't find it...

if you want to reboot, simply go to start, shut down, and restart.

if yuo want to reformat, you will need a windows xp intallation cd.
I'm not so sure about transfering actual programs, because i dont think you can just simply "copy paste" the entire program directory onto the hard disk, but i would not know as I have never done that before.

Dont worry, ppl mix up reboot and reformat all the time smile.gif

When you say you're computer is acting "weird", what exactly is it doing? Also, have you tried scanning your computer with an antivirus software?? Check out http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm and give it a go!

There's a chance that you may just have a ton of spyware/adware that's causing your computer to run like poop. Then again, you may have a virus that can be removed with the online scanner.

Otherwise, HT2791 is right. Your computer probably came with all the CDs you need to reformat your computer. Although, some companies place a partition on your hdd with all the restore data. It depends on the manufacturer.

And HT2791 is right again, you can't just copy over programs in Windows. There are too many "supporting" files scattered around your computer and too many registry entries that would cause the program not to work anymore.

Good luck.

I have a virus and the only way to get rid of it is by reformatting. I think I lost that CD because I can't find it anywhere. Is there any other method that I can use to reformat? =___=

Good, then its prebuilt haha

Under like start programs there should be like HP, and search for HP system recovery... one of those options will wipe ALL your data off and restore it back to before. (It will ask confirmation first of course) Its in there... I know it.

Some companies already have the reformat options installed on the hard drive. So all you need to do is press F8 or something in the beginning of start up. I don't know if HP has it though.
