major?
Do you apply to their music department? How does it work if you want to be a music major at an ivy league?

um I've never applied to an ivy
but I'm pretty sure you'll have to audition or submit a recording

you need to audition (at least that's how it works for most colleges whether they're ivy or not).
if you make it, you get in. if not, you try somewhere else.
i think auditioning for music is really hard since there are SO many talented people out there. it's all about competition.
good luck!

I'm sure the process for Ivy Leagues are the same as for other prestigious music/performing arts places like Juilliard and Peabody. You prepare three pieces and perform them I think.

I think out of the Ivies, only Princeton has auditions. The Ivies, including Princeton, look at you overall (grades, SATs, etc), not only as a musician like they would at a music conversatory. However, there are really good colleges you can apply to that have a separate music school. For example, Northwestern has a top notch music school and it's a great school overall- you would get a conversatory-like environment in a regular university...same with UMich, Indiana, etc. To get in, you would audition and prepare pieces just like you would for conversatory auditions...though I think they also look at your grades and everything else too. However, the audition will be the main factor. Hope that helped a little!
