i know, i must be a wimp ~ but i'm extremely close to my family-- haha. esp my mom and sisters. My first year will be in the upcoming fall. Everytime i'm lying in bed at night, i think about how i'll be in the dorm and how sad i'll be!!*ACKH! >_< HAHA.* I know for sure i'll be homesick for the first few weeks, but how can i cope w/ it during those first few weeks? Did anyone have homesick issues? i don't think everyone gets homesick, right? But how did you deal w/ it and how can i when the time comes?

college doesn't mean that you're going to drop your family. stay in contact, keep a level head and you'll adjust, there's plenty to do.

Well, I'm just about finishing my freshman year here and I love it.

I live in an apartment across campus and honestly, I rarely ever get homesick. o.o

My 'home' is a little over an hour away -- so yah.

Call your folks every now and then so you can keep in touch. Make new friends and participate in activities. GO work out, join organizations and just hang out. Most of the time, you'll find yourself so busy with everything, there's no time for homesickness. xD

^that's what i was reminding myself of... i may be so busy that there's no time for homesickness. hehe. But yeah, i will be living about 3 hours away from my family, so it won't be an option for me to visit them often. haha. Thanks!*

my first year, i wasnt home sick because i was so excited about living in a dorm.
i was the first in my family to live in a dorm, so, i felt like it was an honor.

then, my 2nd year came. over the summer i got a nephew.
i missed my nephew so much. it was so horrible.
i couldnt focus on homework because i missed him so much.
i had spent my whole summer and the fall semester (which i took off) with him.
so... leaving him was so hard. i was so afraid i was going to miss everthing he did.
i wanted to call home every 5 minutes.
i was such a loser at that moment in my life.

i had gone home for spring break and the whole week i spent it with him.
when i came back to dorms and i called home.... he was listening on the other end,
and when he was looking for me but couldnt find me, he started crying, looking for me.
but he could only hear my voice over the phone.
i was such a tear bag. i was about to break down. but i felt like it was a sign for me to become stronger.
for my nephew i must show strength, so he can become strong like me in the future.

that's why i respect our arm forces so much.
they are fighting for our country and not even knowing if they will survive.
and we're only at college!!!!

i think you will learn to be stronger. i know that the missing part will be hard.
but it is a lesson.
just remember that they are in your heart.
i think you will find this true when it happens.
i was able to calm down because i told myself that i was here for school. not jail.
and that if i do good, i can go back home with a happy face.
and i know that my nephew will always be in my heart.
i can always go home and he will be there.
i reassured myself that what im doing is beneficial to me and him in the long run.

happy thoughts. they do help.
be strong.
you can always call home everyday, like me.
i talk to my nephew, and he cant even talk yet, but i love him still.

you will be fine.
ive been there. you must experience it once in your life.
you need to fly alone this time. and the winds will be kind if you know how to glide with it.

^awe you are so sweeet!!* thank you so much!! i got chills reading that . hehe. Omg, you are so brave. I will try to be strong then hehe. I know college will be a learning experience and will be a good thing. It's j/ really new~ but there is always a first for everything. Thank you so much for giving me your experience and understanding. I really appreciate it.

haha.. honestly i love college, i rarely get homesick. its just so much fast paced stuff going on.. theres usually not enough time to get homesick. there's always the phone as well. going home over the breaks is plenty enough for me.. in my opinion its a great way to transition to full time working life later on

i was EXTREMELY homesick when i first moved out.
i moved to a new place where i didn't know a single soul and i lived all by myself.
it was quite lonely. and i was super close with my family and i was 10 hours hours away.
but i got used to it and i grew into my solitude and eventually made friends and stuff.

just keep yourself occupied and keep in touch with the family. it'll be fine.

^ thanks guys!* wow... i guess i shouldn't panick since [mrs. pakman] you were 10 hours away!! omg. And carebear, i think you are right about the comparison and transition to working full-time. I've been comparing it to taking trips-- which i love-- but i think college is better compared to a practice for working full-time. i am definitely more comforted now. it's j/ going to be so different for me and my family. But different is good.* thanks again!

I thought I'd be really homesick too but trust me you'll be so busy with all the college stuff that you'll never have time to be homesick... ^__^;
