Plot Outline: Based on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 surrounds supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. With the intention that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumor that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin's stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. But Enslin is determined to go through and convinced that the horrific past of 1408 is just mere coincidence and a myth. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don't check out by noon.

Definitely gonna see it, almost reminded me of one of Cusack's other thriller, Identity.

The only problem I have when using Stephen King source material is that they don't do it justice. Hopefully 1408 is different. Sam Jackson is in the movie for like 10 mins total lol =\

I read earlier reports from ppl that have seen the screener. Not that I have many complaints because Sam Jackson can sometimes overtake the screen w/his presence.

I started laughing during the trailer. vicx.gif

"Daddy? Don't you LOVE ME ANYMORE?" LOL!

It doesn't look that bad, the trailers just intentionally funny, imo. I'll see it on cable or something if it gets good reviews, because it does look potentially claustrophobic and intense. I just hope they don't use a lot of special FX or CGI or anything like a lot of modern horror films. And it's from a King story, and if there's a talented cast/crew making a King movie it usually turns out well. (Like the Shining, not.. the Langoliers lol)

What's this rated, btw? Please tell me it's R, I'm sick of this slew of PG-13 horror films.

^ Lol, I know what you mean. For some reason, the PG-13 horror movies are usually really bad, probably because they're aimed at the teenage/high school group?

Anyways, 1408 hasn't been rated yet, but it'll probably be rated R. Most Stephen King films are, aren't they? (I just hope this one isn't as gory as Dreamcatcher). smile.gif

Dreamcatcher =\ Too bad that movie was absolutely terrible.!

The US ratings system is stupid, as are the execs that can't see a R-rated flick to be a money maker. Canada rarely throws on a R unless it's really justified.

What's with creepy-looking kids fad in horror movies? It's like a trend in horror movies nowadays to add weird kids. huh.gif

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

Well there are some other good ones, like The Others and The Ring (which is like the only good asian remake I've seen), but I think horror films are films that need to be free, with not so strict boundries. They only work nowadays with a below R rating if the film lies heavily on atmosphere and suspense/tension (like the aforementioned films), but the problem is that most PG13 horror films don't have either of those. They're made so that everyone involved can make money and for the actual "horror" they rely on cheap scares. Ala Boogeyman. Not to say 1408 will turn out that way but judging by the trailer and the fact that it's a SK story, I REALLY thought it was gonna be rated R.

Yeah, the movie was awful. But I've read the book. It is so much better. The movie have left out so many scenes that is in the book.

Anyways, I like most movies with John Cusack in it. I especially like the movie he made in the 80's. I will go see 1408 for sure.

Probably one of the best SKing book - movie adaptations I've seen.

Unfortunately I had terrible thoughts of Phonebooth. 90% of the flick in the room, 90% of Phonebooth in.. a phonebooth!

I heard from my friends, who watched it on Friday and Saturday, that it was really good. I told my boyfriend I wanted to watch it on Friday, but he was being an ass, so we didn't go. From what I've heard, I really want to go watch it.
