Vista sucks right now, so don't think about getting that. Although, every laptop nowadays have basic Vista installed.

I really hate when people ask this question, because it's a matter of preferences. If you have an Apple store near you, go to it a check it out. Whether it be the official Apple store or the one at CompUSA.

I personally haven't tried a MAC. I only had little problems with my XP and don't plan to change it unless I have to get a Mac. Although, I'll be purchasing a mac laptop later in my life.

This certainly is a personal preference question, but as in my opinion, I say go for a Mac. Once you use a mac, you'll never wanna go back to being a windows user. Trust me, I got converter last year to using a mac, haha. It's made my life a whole lot easier and don't worry about it being hard to convert because it is seriously not. It's really easy.

And like the poster above said, Vista is having a lot of issue currently. If you do buy a Windows computer, I'd stick with using Windows XP for a while...or running Ubuntu. Save yourself the hassels and hair pulling and go buy yourself a mac! Try something different for a change. ^_~ With whatever you pick though, I hope that you enjoy using your new computer! <3

The lack of software/hardware compatibility along with costs keeps me with PC's.

Basically, anything Mac is $$$$.

Nothing wrong with Windows Vista. It's an awesome OS and bounds/leaps better than XP.

Macs are awesome in their own right too ~~

My 2 cents about this topic.... 95% of the subjective opinions presented in this topic will be innaccurate (as it always is with Mac vs PC topics on non technical forums). smile.gif

Ya it's really up to you, Mac OSX has its downsides too, though they aren't as performance based as Windows has had, and the main reason for that is because a Mac consists of Apple sponsored/designed hardware to run on Apple designed software, while windows has a plethora of possibilities leading to inefficiencies. Think about it.. you have like 3 choices for video cards on Mac's and one line of CPU's no motherboard decisions, no sound card decisions.. all of that stuff is pick and choose on a 'PC' while it's already picked by Apple as it runs best with them and that's great and efficient and all. I just need my power... I can't handle 10 frames per second in games.. and other junk. So I stuc k with 'PC's' as I need the customization and see no real gain of having expensive Mac-based hardware at this point.

In the end it's still just preference as Mac aren't crap at all, they are generally very well manufactured and run smooth for most tasks and Windows is Windows everybody already knows how it's good/bad.
I am the minority here.

That's about the same for me, too.

I'm using a mac right now. It's pretty nice, but then I think Windows would be more convenient for me with program and accessory (cell phone, printer, external HD, etc) compatibility.

BUT... NO anti-virus or spyware scanner needed! tongue.gif

Mac is good for designing programs, but it costs a bomb...
windows is good for mostly everything.
but I wouldn't say its better.
i'd say both are good in different sections. ^^

i switched from windows to mac 2 year ago. i love mac and i don't think i'll switch back to windows (i do have a pc tho). but i DON'T think mac is superior than windows.

either a pc or mac will do the basic things perfectly. just make sure EVERY PROGRAM you use is available on MAC or at least you can find a substitutes. and not every program has universal version for the intel MAC today. the new Photoshop 3 cost me an arm and an leg... sad.gif

and where did u get you music and videos? d/l? then u might need to know that MAC can't d/l "mms://....asf or wma" and u can't use clubbox on a MAC. and sometimes you'll have trouble playing video with subs (there is always a way to solve it just it's more troublesome if you're used to windows)

btw, you can always run Windows on intel MAC today...

Macs are about 200% more expensive than PCs of the same power. You'd be better off with a Windows XP machine. And those awful Mac commercials don't help...

I have a powerbook and an IBM in front of me. I hate it when people ask this question. It depends on what you prefer. I like using a mac but I would never leave my PC behind. I love my PC too. There are positives and negatives about both platfroms. Compatibility is a big issue with my mac. There are many files and websites that I want to access that I can't on my mac without looking for some kind of hack to do so which can get pretty annoying.

There are tons of pretty eye catching PCs out there. You just have to look further then what is being offered at box stores like Best Buy. You can aslo customize your PC's interface to make it look nicer or even mac-like if you want to. There are tons of softwares out there to do so.

For other soompiers out there who are pondering this question, it really comes down to what you want to do with your notebook/desktop. Honestly, I believe that both platfoms can be very similar to one another with a little hack and add ons from here and there. It comes down to your comfort level with keys, functions, programs, commands, etc. Go and play around with what you want to buy and see how much you really like it. If you have been using PCs your whole life, don't worry it is not hard to use a mac. And if you think that your PCs can't live up to a mac, think again. You are being brainwashed by Apple to think so. Those mac commercials are stupid and bais when you know more about computers than just the average user. Apple products are expensive than most PC products, but I do believe that in time with increase users there will be more incentives for third party companies and the likes to make Apple compatible products and soon Apple would just have to cave in to the competitions.

It makes me mad when people say "Vista is crap and not doing so well right now." I fail to see how it is, I've been using Vista since mid-January and I haven't had any problems. I even set up a dual-boot between XP and Vista, just incase I still needed XP. I haven't touched XP since February.

The OP stated that he/she was getting a notebook. I really don't see the problem with getting a notebook with Vista already installed. All the drivers should be installed and there shouldn't be any problems. Vista is more secure and user-friendly than ever before, so really, I fail to see how it's "crap" right now. I think it's just the people in denial about upgrading.
