Summary for May week 2 chart:

No. 1 song: SG Wannabe's "아리랑" (Arirang) remains No. 1 for the 3rd week in a row. This song also becomes the first ever song to have a perfect score of 1000, meaning that it is No. 1 on each of our sources. Before then, the closest to perfect was Ivy's "유혹의 소나타" (Temptation of Sonata) with a score of 997 on April week 1. This is very difficult to accomplish, so congrats to SG Wannabe.

Biggest Mover of the week: MC The Max's "가슴아 그만해" (My Heart Cannot Go On Like This Any Longer) jumped 27 spots to No. 6 this week. MC The Max finally returns with their 5th album. As usual, they have strong album sales to support. Their album is ranked No. 2 just behind SG Wannabe's album in sales for the past few weeks. This rock ballad is their vintage style - the more you listen, the more you like it.

Hot shot debut: We have a very high debut this week. Lexy's "하늘위로" (Up to the sky) enters the chart at No. 5. Lexy is returning to her roots of rapping on this album, and it shows on this song. There is less singing and more rapping. Previous title songs from Lexy's first 2 albums were all top 3 hits, looks like this will be another one.

9. Ivy - 이럴거면 (If it is like this) - Her 5-week No. 1 song ""유혹의 소나타" (Temptation of Sonata) is off the chart this week and Ivy immediately returns to the top 10 at No. 9 with this emotional ballad. Just like her first album, Ivy shows us that she's good at both dance music and slower songs. The lyrics is written by Kang Eun Kyung, who also wrote "바본가봐" (I'm a fool) for Ivy's first album. This song is already No. 1 on MNet's M!Countdown this week.

14. Lee Juck - 다행이다 (To be fortunate) - Lee Juck moves up 18 spots to No. 14 this week with this rock ballad. As usual, most of his scores are coming from album sales, as he doesn't perform on gayo shows often. Noentheless, this is a very good song that he wrote himself.

24. Nam Gyu Ri - 깊은밤을날아서 (Flying Into Deep Night) - Up 12 spots this week. See Ya's Nam Gyu Ri is very popular among fans, and she is actively promoting this song. We should see her in the top 20 next week.

37. Viva Soul (feat. Ha Dong Kyun) - Cry - If you like commercial hip-hop, you should like this song. Viva Soul is a three men hip-hop group made up of Jood, D'low and Samuel. They have moderate success in their first album. This song is the title song of their 2nd album, featured ex-Wanted member Ha Dong Kyun. The piano accompaniment melds harmoniously with the members' rapping and Ha Dong Kyun's mid-to-low tone.

39. Turtles - 한동안뜸했었지 (Come to lull for awhile) - Turtles returned with a remake single album. This song was originally a hit by rock group 사랑과 평화 from the 1978. Turtles remakes it to their usual fun style.

47. Hun - 그맙습니다 (Thank You) - From the MBC hit drama of the same title starring Jang Hyuk and Gong Hyo Jin. This is the best drama OST song I've heard so far this year. You can sample it here.

BIOGRAPHY:

Our featured artiste this week is the hip-hop duo Free Style. Freestyle is made up of brothers Mino and Zio. The duo debuted in November 1999. Even though their style is commercial hip-hop, they did not catch the attention of mainstream audience until their 3rd album in 2004. At that time mainstream hip-hop tunes started to boom. The title song "Y (Please Tell Me Why)" became their biggest hit. This mid-tempo hip-hop ballad stayed on music charts for nearly half a year. This song was also re-released in 2006 as a digital single and featured As One as vocalists.

However, their 4th album was a disappointment as it did not produce any hit songs. They tried more fun and oldie style up-tempo song "Hey DJ" as their title song but it failed miserably. Free Style was able to reverse this fortune on their latest album. The title song "Addresses Not Found" became their first top 10 hit. This song used the same formula as "Y". It is a mid-tempo hip-hop ballad and it also features a female vocalist Jang Hyun Yi. Looks like Free Style has found their niche of success.

Ji Eun had four years of training in preparation for her first solo album and she had contributed in many albums for YG musicians. Ji Eun recently was featured in Lexy's title song "Up To The Sky" singing the main melody. She is already very well known for her powerful vocal skills. She has sung songs by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston in front of a big crowd and was praised for her vocal skills. There are a total of 12 tracks in this album and her title song is entitled "Yesterday Different From Today". This song was composed by Lee Hyun Jung and actress Gu Hye Seon is featured in the music video. In the music video, the man that Gu Hye Seon loves dies right in front of her eyes due to a deadly car accident. It's a very sad music video that will have us feel as if we are watching a five minute movie. Yangpa is returning back to her fans after six years with her 5th album entitled [The Widows Of My Soul]. It took her two years to prepare for this album, picking the right songs to sing in the recording studio. She has worked very hard to put 100% of her effort into this album. Yangpa is also returning back to her fans with more of a mature appearance and all 12 tracks in this album is filled with a variety of genres, such as minor pop ballad, punk rock ballad, J-POP ballad, blues, funky, jazz...etc. The title song is entitled "Love...What is that?", which was composed by Park Geun Tae and written by Kang Eun Kyung.
