it's true. there's no exaggeration. gossip girl has been generating a lot of buzz because of its supposed inappropriateness and all the behind-the-scenes scandals. but in terms of ratings, it's ABYSMAL. some people say that it's because it's on the cw but even shows that have been running for years on the cw like smallville and one tree hill are getting better ratings. veronica mars got more or less the same rating (a little better, even) when it got canceled. shows on premium cable channels are getting better ratings. dawn ostroff's defense (she's like the head of cw) is that people download it via itunes, but really itunes sales are marginal in terms of overall viewership. in its target demographic it's not even in the top 10, and if we wanna talk about the specific timeslot it's at least behind private practice when it was still on air for that target audience. i watch the show out of guilty pleasure (and really because i read the books), but it's not successful at all. it's not getting good ratings, it's not getting good reviews (new york magazine's "best show ever" is delusional, if not satirical), and it's not winning or even getting nominated for any credible award. basically i'd be ok with them canceling it after season 2.

I've read about the dismal ratings in quite a number of websites. I supposed the impression that GG gives is that it's a trashy teenager show, so maybe that's why?

but either way,. it turns out better than I expected, so I don't care. looking forward to season 2.

actually, i think the problem is that fans are watching through other means as oppose to catching it on television, which throws off the show's ratings.

well, i addressed this problem when i mentioned the itunes viewing. you know fans of other shows are watching through other means as well, so it's not fair to use that as an excuse for gossip girl doing poorly when other shows are doing so much better. also, in terms of a show's financial and commercial success, itunes sales are marginal compared to what they make from ad sales on tv. and let's say 15000 people or 100000 people dowload the show, that is nothing compared to the 2 million watching it on tv, or worse yet, compared to the 10 million NOT watching it because they're off watching other shows. i watch gossip girl, too, but it's time to face the music: the ratings are bad because fewer people are watching this show compared to others.

It is said that Tamara Feldman from Dirty Sexy Money will be joining GG soon playing as Poppy, a fellow socialite-in-the-making who gets close to Chuck�s new sis (Serena). Her role won't be like Georgina at all so don't worry She will make a appearance in the 5th episode and on in Season 2

i heard about tamara feldman. as juliet darling once said about natalie kimpton (her character on dsm), "that girl is septic". funny how she goes around shows playing basically the same WASP characters.
